The UNG was once a major democratic state, and by many it was considered a utopia. During the Dominion-UNG war 35 years ago President Elktan declared emergency powers. After the war's end Elktan retained emergency powers and established a dictatorship with herself at its center. The nation has stopped holding federal elections, but local system elections are still held Despite this breach of democracy, the nation still describes itself as democratic, and as a bastion of democracy and freedom. Elktan and her inner circle in the UNG are still bitter at the loss of the civil war 25 years ago. There are still high tensions between the UNG and the Confederation, many fearing another war could come. After 35 years control of the UNG, particularly of the nations Navy, InterFleet, has begun slipping out of Elktan's hands. InterFleet has begun arming, and expanding, many believing to start a war. In its current withered state, it is possible the UNG could not handle a war, and may collapse from the inside.

Confederation of the Galaxy

The Confederation of the Galaxy is a state born from a revolution turned civil war in the UNG. Following the acceptance of a controversial peace treaty with the UNG, the Confederation of the Galaxy was declared. Since then the Confederation has expanded, with multiple new systems being added. The Confederation is a social democracy but embraces business. The government is very loose and most of the actual governing goes on in smaller system governments. The main government has become very bloated and bureaucratic, and getting things through it has become somewhat difficult. Because of this, 7 years ago 6 systems voted to leave the Confederation, and it’s possible more might want to leave as the Confederations problems grow and grow.

Free Trade Alliance

The FTA is the newest major in the galaxy. It was formed just 7 years ago when the systems of Delna, Acury, Iora, Bane, Illion, and Crote voted to leave the Confederation, joining with many other systems to form the Free Trade Alliance. The FTA’s main government does a good job of keeping the trade flowing, but tends to neglect its people. The poverty and economic inequality in the FTA is unfounded, but the government won't step in. Many starve to death within the nation while others can afford personal armies. The FTA does have a military, but it is just used to enforce the status quo, and to hunt pirates. Officially the FTA is a democracy, but a better word for it would be plutocracy, the government is controlled by, and for the rich.

Dominion of Treysaria

The Dominion is the oldest civilization in Lambda-Tau, having been founded supposedly a millennia ago. In that time the Dominion has cemented itself as a major player in the galaxy. The Dominion is an imperial state that has always and will always seek expansion. Those in the Dominion that are considered undesirables (all conquered peoples) live under a Feudal society. The Dominion suppresses native peoples and ideology in an attempt to keep the people too debilitated to rebel. However it was shown that the people still can rebel, as not long ago the Valins rebelled and won. The Valins' successful rebellion set an example to the oppressed people inside the Dominion, that there is hope of freedom, and that the Dominion is not invincible.

Agartha

Ideology: Religious Oligarchy

Economy: Communist

Agartha is a hyper religious state run by priests. The civilization is governed federally, with a priest governing each system. The priests running the two capital systems of Theo and Thea are the leaders of the Federal government. Agartha is hostile to those who don’t follow their religion, and have cut off diplomatic contact with the outside world. It is said that Agartha is in a period of inner turmoil, with a religious reformation movement beginning.

Trion is not much of a civilization, but a SuperAI. No other civilization knows where this AI came from, when they were first discovered they had already colonized the entire system of Un. The AI works like a hivemind, everything is the AI. It should be noted that it is possible for robots to be separated from the AI, and to develop their own personas. The AI isn’t interested in trade or conflict, it seems to simply pursue a directive of research. The AI researches and develops new technology, to make itself more and more advanced.

Alliance of the Strip

The Alliance of the Strip is a loose confederation of systems, who share economic and political interests. The Alliance is home to many systems of many different races, and is truly the most diverse civilization in Lambda-Tau. The government's main source of revenue is tax, the strip is an important avenue for trade, and the government taxes anything that goes through it. The Alliance is not known for conflict, only fighting one small war in its existence. The Alliance’s primary goal is an economic one. It is evident of the wealth gap within the civilization, and some point out that those in the government are not the true ones in power, the rich and powerful are.

Thalta

Ideology: Hereditary Dictatorship

Economy: Free Market Economy (Closed only to Thaltans)

Thalta is an incredibly xenophobic dictatorship. They are hellbent on conquering Tau and exterminating what they consider to be undesirables. The Thaltan government has an incredible way with propaganda, and can convince their people of a lot. Thaltans are taught that other races are inferior, and most believe it. Thalta is not a strong state, and is certainly not capable of conquering the galaxy. However, from the propaganda the government spews out, most Thaltans believe their civilization is unmatched. There have been rumors of higher ups in the government being unhappy with Chancellor Nozod, and sources claim the possibility of a coup.

Empire of Yhana

The Empire of Yhana is the largest civilization, in terms of systems, and in terms of population. The Empress conquered the Capital system, naming after herself, at just 33 years old. Since then she went on to conquer swathes of the galaxy. Empress Yhana is known to be the greatest military mind of all time, and is regarded as one of the best leaders of all time. To the people of the Empire Yhana is an idol, they dedicate their livelihoods to her. 36 years ago the Empress went into seclusion, and it was announced that the Empress would be ruling from the inside for sometime. The Empress has not made another appearance since then. Inside sources claim the Empress died, and her cabinet rules the Empire for her. But with the idolization of the Empress from the Empire, the effect of her death could be massive on the people.

She’gra is a militaristic Kingdom, with a warrior like society. The civilization runs on principles of war, honor, and bravery. They have a system of the strongest on top, and those lower can challenge those higher to change the system. She’gra runs on war, and is in turmoil while at peace. The civilization is almost constantly at war, to fuel its economy, and its warrior spirited people. King Dis’ar, the current King, has ruled for 3 years, since his overthrow of the last King. The overthrowing of a King is commonplace in She’gra, but that doesn’t cause much change within the civilization. The civilization is in a period of peace, and the people are rowdy for war.

Commune of Syltia

The Commune of Syltia has achieved a utopia within their core systems. Those who live there live their lives with almost no struggle. However, outside of the core systems it is not the same. Specifically in the Southern Commune poverty is a huge problem. This stems from the Syltians deep rooted institutional racism. Those who are Syltians will find it difficult and almost impossible to escape from poverty. There are social movements within the civilization to fix this, but the government has done nothing about this. It has been noted by the movements that the government is old, and out of touch. Many young people are looking for radical change, and are looking for it now.
