Today I returned to the western side of the Kruger Park, north of the Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp.
I saw the common sightings along most of the roads. The highlight was a clear view of a Leopard crossing the Mbyamiti riverbed along the S25, a mother and calf White Rhino on the S114 and Sable Antelope on the H2-2. I also saw a White Rhino on the H2-2.
I stopped off at most of the historical points, viewpoints and waterholes along the route. This is the world described in the wonderful book "Jock of the Bushveld" written by Sir Percy Fitzpatrick. Jock, the dog, was born in this area in 1885.
The H2-2 road was the trading route during the 1880's with a number of historical markers describing the history of this area.
I stopped at the Afsaal Picnic site along the H3 for a snack. This appears to be the Game Rangers waterhole as there were many game vehicles in the parking lot. The place was very busy with tourists queuing for service at the food outlets and shop. I decided to continue my trip.
I arrived at Pretoriuskop and setup camp to secure my spot before heading to the Wimpy Restaurant to continue my Computer work - i.e. Downloading photos and Garmin data and categorising the data. The Vodacom signal was poor and I could not access the internet.

While working on my laptop, a couple walked in. I asked them if they saw the Leopard. The lady said "No" and they continued with their business. Later she came over and said they were from America and had seen a lot of Lion and Leopard. This was their last day and they were going to the Eastern Cape to visit her family. I asked "where in the Cape". She said "Uitenhage". She said she went to school there. I asked "Van Riebeeck High School?" and she said "yes". I asked if she new a mutual friend who was head girl at the school and she said "Yes, she used to often drive with her to visit her boyfriend". This triggered a long discussion. Prudy had moved to the USA where she met and married Larry.
I returned to my campsite, opened up a cold beer and sat watching a beautiful sunbird enjoying the nectar from the red flowers of a Coral Tree.
My neighbours who occupied the 4 dome tents returned from their day drive. They comprised a group of 9 people from Spain. We chatted about their Kruger experience and they were very exited about everything they had experienced.
Later on my other neighbours, Mike and Mariaan from Pretoria, returned from their day drive. After dinner, they invited me over and we sat until late in the evening exchanging stories.
Giraffe could be seen along most of the routes (S25 Road)
Pretoriuskop Camp Site
Pretoriskop is a lovely rest camp, but then so are the rest. It is the only rest camp that I know of with a Wimpy restaurant so you will not get any fine-dining here.
