OK, so Dad and I were talking the other night after I got back with Connor from another ER/Urgent Care visit and we debating whether his "days since last hospitalization" counter should or should not be reset if we have to take him to the ER. So far I've only been resetting the counter if we actually stay overnight in the hospital but we wondered if it should be reset if we have to take him to the ER/Urgent Care for something serious.
So I thought we'd put it to a vote. What do you guys think? :-)
Oh, and about his ER visits - there's been two this month already. He caught a virus at the end of May that caused him to get red spots all over his body. We were panicking for a couple of days wondering if it might be chicken pox. Luckily it wasn't. Unluckily it was still some sort of virus. Well, one of the spots formed right over where his central line used to be on his chest. When they pulled the central line, they left a small plastic bead in his chest that was holding the line in and just pulled the line. This area got infected and he got an abscess that needed to be treated. Off to the ER we went - on his birthday, of course! We didn't get admitted but we did get lots of antibiotics to treat his staph infection. Then a week after that we had to get his G-button changed again as the flap had worn down and tore off. Now just this past weekend his abscess returned even bigger and worse over the same central line scar. Two infections in an area where there is a foreign object in his body - not good. So off to the ER I went again. This time he got lanced :-( and treated with even stronger antibiotics of which he's still on - a topical one and an oral one. The infection site is looking much much better but we will be contacting his surgeon to see if something needs to be done since he's had a recurring infection on the same site that seems to be resistant to the antibiotics.
Other than that, he's his usual cheery self. He's starting to talk a ton and its hilarious. His favorite phrases are: "I want to hold it", "Put it on me," and "Sorry." He likes to say sorry every time someone gets a boo-boo too. So I'll say "ow" and he'll say "sorry" or he'll say "ow" after slapping himself and then he'll say "sorry." Yes. To himself.
Hope everyone is enjoying the hot summer!
