I wrote this post only a couple of days after Halloween and thought proudly, 'Wow, I'm actually going to post this not too soon after the event. How unusual for me!" Well that didn't happen. I was traveling for work and was just too exhausted at the end of the day to try to figure out how to log on from the hotel. So here is a post I wrote a week ago. ;-)
------------
We hope you all had a wonderful and fun Halloween. I know we did.
Big Brother reprised his role as Darth Vader, after much debate and ideas for other costumes. A robot was a recurring request in the weeks leading up to All Hallow’s Eve, but other candidates included a ninja, a zombie and a devil-type thingy of some sort. Connor had managed to break BB's light saber from the previous year, so we had to find another one.
Connor was a lobster this year, and yes, he looked good enough to eat. ;-)
Even without his costume, I’ve had some women come up and spontaneously pinch his cheeks while we are out. Several have mentioned how his cheeks are so cute and chubby they want to bite them. (BITE them?? Is this a cultural urge I’m not aware of?) When it happens, I ask them to please refrain from doing so. It’s still hard for me not to throw myself in front of people and yell, “Don’t touch him!! Err…I mean, please…” A lot of them are faster than me or I never see them coming, so I resign myself to wiping him down with anti-bacterial gel and wipes. Anyway, to make a short story long, I look like one of those over-protective, over-reacting, want-to-put-my-baby-in-a-bubble parents when out in public with my kids. It’s still hard to get over the fact that Connor is not technically neutropenic anymore and super-susceptible to infections; his white blood cell counts have been closer to the normal range in recent months. Mind you, I justify my paranoia with the thought that infections are still dangerous for him and my behavior must be having a beneficial effect because he hasn’t had a bad cold yet (knock on wood).
We went to a fall festival at the local church down the street Halloween night with another family. The kids had a great time playing games and getting candy. Connor’s costume was definitely original, as I saw no other lobsters at any time during the night. However, several ladies mistook him for Elmo (who knew Elmo had antennae?) and I had one person ask if he was some sort of insect.
After we got home, we did a short jaunt up and down our street to trick-or-treat. End story, we made out like bandits and now have enough candy to last for a long, long time.
