As promised, this is the first of probably several "flashback" entries of how we arrived here, where we are today.
Connor was a full-term baby and my pregnancy wasn't too bad, except for the last couple of months. My blood pressure started to climb and I started to swell, so I was on bedrest for the last month. PIH, pregnancy-induced hypertension, is what I had and it is fairly common. I had a mild case when I was pregnant with BB and it was a little worse with Connor.

A Perfect Baby
Connor was born on Wednesday, June 4th. He looked perfect and was doing well in the newborn nursery. We did the usual things parents do. We counted his toes and fingers, marveled at his pretty feet and laughed at his wrinkled face and juicy lips. Ok, ok, maybe we didn't marvel at his feet in wonder. It was more like, gosh, those are big feet for a little baby!
NICU Rescue
Then at 17 hours after his birth, he started having respiratory issues. He was rushed to the NICU and was found to have severe anemia and acidosis. After a week's stay and two red blood cell (RBC) transfusions, antibiotics and various other tests and drugs, he was released home.
We had no idea what was in store for us. They thought he had a large loss of blood at birth due to a possible placental abruption. We thought we were taking home a perfectly healthy baby who gave us a huge scare to start off.
