Elementary School:
I was in 5th grade, Mr. P's science class. We were learning about LASIK surgery. He showed us a video that detailed and displayed every aspect of the surgery. I still to this day, do not know what we were supposed to learn from this, perhaps about new surgeries and new surgical tech? I do know that we had to later write a research paper about LASIK.
High School:
Ms. S was teaching us how to write persuasive papers in English class. We were allowed to go to the library/computer lab to research different topics. We were taught how to put our notes onto index cards and to include the MLA citations at the bottom of the card for future reference. We were then taught how to use citation machine to create our citations.
Professional Development:
My principal was leading a professional development on trauma in schools. It was held in the library and not very interactive. She spoke at us for 45 minutes and had no reference sheets for us and did not check for understanding. It wasn't until I took a course on my own that I learned the information.
