Adaptive learning can be hugely beneficial to eLearning. As learners, teachers, and instructional designers continue to utilize on-line platforms, especially in the time of COVID, there will be a higher demand for adaptive learning. Adaptive learning has ways to extrinsically and intrinsically motivates learners, as well as catering to the learners themselves. As this type of learning is continued to be used in eLearning, I believe that will lead to a raise of students continuing to learn virtually. Since adaptive learning is essentially exactly as it sounds, this will allow those that need certain accommodations met easier. Also, it will help change courses over time to ensure that each learner is able to reach their full potential.
I plan to use adaptive learning in my signature assessment by using Nearpod to include the Gamification theory of adaptive learning. Nearpod includes a game called "Time to Climb" that allows users to compete against each other while reviewing. I also plan to use the metacognition theory, having learners evaluate the level of skill which they are at, and sort them into groups accordingly. This will also help with the differentiation of the training as well.
