Reflection

In 2023, I began an 18-month Events Management course at TAFE to achieve a Certificate III. I attended once a week every term and attained my certificate at the end of Term 2, 2024. My passion for events developed from my interest in activism and bringing people together to celebrate a cause. Since then, my experience in Events Management has expanded to a volunteer role in Production with TEDx Kings Park and behind-the-scenes planning for youth events with the City of Rockingham.

My first year of TAFE was mostly spent behind a computer screen rigorously completing various business documents, risk assessments, PowerPoint presentations, cultural sensitivity research, excel databases, professional emails, and travel itineraries. Though the tasks initially seemed to have no relation to events, I ended up using many of the excel, business document and marketing skills throughout my year at school during Odyssey planning and TCOW media. Once I began using the skills in a practical way, they felt puropseful and I was reminded why the course was so beneficial to me. My assessment results were positive throughout the year and I achieved positive feedback.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to have attended TAFE during my final years of school, and benefited greatly from being out in a different environment once a week. Traveling to the city solo each Friday is something that used to make me very anxious, and it's nice to have seen my confidence grow in that aspect as well as academically.
