To Change Our World started as a small interest project back in 2021, when I began to learn more about our changing society, climate anxiety, the concept of activism and how overwhelming it can all be.
I decided to share my research and create resources by starting a website that was easy for anyone to understand. Now three years later, TCOW has developed into a website and social media brand, and led to volunteer roles with TEDx Kings Park and the City of Rockingham, a Certificate III in Events Management, a Certificate III in Photography and Content Creation, participation in various leadership programs, professional networking, and a whole-hearted passion for knowledge, collaboration, action and empathy.
Through this project, I have met many people of all ages striving to create a better society and think of creative solutions to solve big problems together. I now feel less alone in my activism and I have created networks of inspiring people both in person and online. As a result, 'doom spirals' have become less frequent, replaced instead by action plans and collaborative projects. TCOW is ever-growing, with my current focus on developing an updated health program outline, a consistent social media presence and an updated website look.

Events
A big part of TCOW is creating events to bring people together and inspire them with optimism and simple information. My first events were held at our previous Adolescent Program site to support Project for Awesome and Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea. The planning process led me to study a Certificate III in Events Management, which I completed in June 2024. Events I have organised as part of TCOW include:
Project for Awesome Fundraisers in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Each one included a quiz and activities to get people thinking, plus shared food and snacks. Over three years, we donated over $600 to support Partners in Health and Save the Children on behalf of P4A. February 2022, 2023 & 2024.
Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea Fundraiser. Groups of people baked or donated sweet treats that we shared with tea for a $5 entry and we enjoyed the May sunshine out in the courtyard. We raised just over $300. May 2022.
Children's House Lessons inspired by children's books The Lorax and The Snail and the Whale. These lessons included reading a story and discussing it together with a group of 3 to 5 year olds, and engaging in activities including follow-the-leader, painting and making ocean jars. The children were enthusiastic and came up with some very creative responses including robot trees! Not quite the solution but definitely creative and innovative, and that's exactly what we're looking for when creating change. September 2022.
Share the Dignity Donation Drives to collect period products and other essentials for women and girls experiencing homelessness, hardship, poverty or fleeing domestic violence. We donated over $200 worth of supplies each year. November 2021 & 2022.
A short video recap of the Project for Awesome event on the 15th of February 2023. We raised just over $300 to donate on the day.

I began this project officially in February 2021. After researching web design, I launched my website in June 2021! Since then I have been updating the pages, writing blogs, researching and organising events to get people involved as much as possible. Working on my website is something I always enjoy doing. It's always my first choice to work on and keeps me motivated. It has become an outlet for my hopes and a way to keep my climate anxiety under control.
Throughout my ongoing work on this project, I've discovered and researched many different worldly issues, solutions, actions and projects. In 2021, I took a deep dive into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) and fast fashion, focusing on ways I could promote solutions and real information to adolescents like myself. In 2022 my core focus was educational events and media propaganda and in 2023 I participated in the political aspects of climate and social action through programs and social media.
I collect recurring words to add to a Terms and Definitions page on my site and keep up with organisations and activists through Instagram. I used to plan out every aspect of research before I started, however whilst researching a certain topic it usually takes me through something entirely new. I now start with a broad question and see where it takes me.
In 2024, I am continuing my volunteer roles and participation in programs, working with people to create tangible solutions and change to issues like homophobia, heath literacy, environmental policy and education. As I come to the end of my high school years, I look towards my future studies and am deciding what path will best allow me to extend this passion. I am currently in the process of applying to study Law at University.
The TCOW website ranges from reports and simplified information to event recaps and poetry. Everything is centered around optimism, empathy, creative solutions and collaborative action. Home | To Change Our World
Logo
The logo I created features our Earth filled with stars and galaxies. I chose this to symbolise that many small actions (stars), can make up a massive whole (our Earth). I created this logo using Bazzart on my phone, but an earlier version was sketched and water-coloured. I now have stickers of the logo that are popping up on friends' laptops and cars!
