Senior Canberra Tour
Senior Thesis: Politics influence human rights, and not caring is a privilege.
My Senior Project for my graduating year is organising a Senior Canberra Tour, our school's first interstate trip, from Sunday the 18th to Friday the 23rd of August.
Focusing on leadership, civics and citizenship, selected seniors visited national attractions including Parliament House, the Museum of Australian Democracy, the National Electoral Education Centre, the National ANZAC Memorial, art galleries, museums and landmarks in Central Canberra. Students were recommended by their advisors to attend based on their leadership skills and demonstrated responsibility. A trip to our national capital will benefit students by enhancing their organisational skills, self-management, team-work, independence and knowledge of parliamentary functions which ultimately shape our laws and lifestyles.
Throughout my To Change Our World project, my research has become increasingly political as I've realised how intertwined politics, democracy, and power are with human and environmental rights. The Australian Government offers a rebate for schools that visit our national capital, and encourage us to visit all four registered attractions and engage in programs there to be eligible.
From planning to budgeting, communicating with venues, submitting and refining proposals, applying for funding, completing risk managements, and filling out excursion forms, I coordinated the whole trip from plan to execution. It's been a huge undertaking but I have absolutely loved the challenge. Putting my events management skills to the test and coordinating a trip that each student benefited from, it's exciting to share my passion for human rights with my peers in the heart of Canberra. It hasn't been without it's setbacks, and I've documented each high and low in an ongoing digital and written journal.
It's incredible to look back on all the work, knowing the trip eventually got approved. On return from our wonderful week in Canberra, I am so unbelievably proud that I was able to make it happen and proud of the students for their support and enthusiasm.
