Cultural Odyssey: Ignite Linguistic Passion with Open Assessment Adventures
PPT will be here.
In today's increasingly diverse classrooms, open assessment stands as a pivotal tool in language education. This presentation delves into the innovative use of Cultural Immersion Activities as a core component of open assessment in K-16 language courses. We explore how cultural events can be used as assessment tools that align with open educational practices. Participants, collaborating with experts and peers in the target language community either in person or virtually (in metaverse spaces), jointly developed cultural events. Throughout this process, participants collaboratively and transparently conducted learning verification and provided feedback. This approach shifts the traditional assessment paradigm to one that is more inclusive, dynamic, and motivating for all learners, especially those who are traditionally disengaged. Attendees will learn strategies for implementing open assessments that are not only culturally engaging but also foster deep learning and learning autonomy.
