This ePortfolio is the final project of GEOL-233 where I created a whole Geology unit for a SDA 8th grade class. It followes the topics reflected within the course but at an 8th grade level. I also included a Geology and Adventism lesson because I think it is important to talk about the differing views within science. This incorporation can provide a safe space for students to discuss how faith and religion do have a part in science and the secular world.
I chose this artifact to showcase my creativity and application of the SDA Science Standards alongside each other. Not only does science allow students to explore concepts and topics, Geology specifically is connected to their everyday life and what they experience. It provides opportunities to bring to life exploration and test theories. With guided lessons and a whole booklet (made by moi), students can apply what is taught inside of the classroom to outside. The lessons themselves– Google Slides and other resources–are also interactive and encourages questioning. Differentiation and accommodations are built into every lesson, activity, and assessment.
For full disclosure, I have not taught any of these lessons in an 8th grade classroom. However, by providing these examples of the quality of education I want to give my students, I want viewers to understand that I can incorporate standards with engaging, interactive activities. This is the type of education I want to provide my students; one that incorporates the outside classroom inside, that encourages students to explore, to question, and to be amazed by.
I also learned that this takes forever to create, so if I were to do this for a lot of subjects, I will need to go little by little, changing and improving when needed, and to give myself type to develop in advance.
