Trevor and Jackie stood at the top of Crazy Hill, bundled up in their thick winter coats, hats, and scarves. Their sled sat nearby, gleaming in the sunlight that sparkled on the snowy surface. They could hear the laughter and cheers of the neighborhood kids sledding down, but the steep slope looked like a mountain to them.
"I don’t know, Trevor," Jackie said, shifting nervously. "It looks so steep."
Trevor nodded, clutching his sled’s rope tightly. "Yeah, but... it also looks kind of fun. Look at everyone down there! They’re having a blast."
Jackie watched as another sled whooshed down, its riders screaming with a mix of fear and delight. "What if we crash? Or hit something?"
Trevor thought for a moment. "Okay, what if we make a plan? We can go together on the sled, take it slow, and steer carefully. Plus, we’ll wear our helmets—just in case."
Jackie grinned. "Alright, but you have to promise to steer straight!"
"Deal!" Trevor said, holding out his pinky for a pinky promise.
The two friends adjusted their helmets and placed the sled at the top of the hill. Trevor climbed in first, gripping the handles, while Jackie sat behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist.
"Ready?" Trevor asked.
Jackie took a deep breath. "Ready as I’ll ever be!"
With a small push, they began to glide down the hill. The sled picked up speed, the wind rushing past their faces. At first, Jackie squeezed her eyes shut, but Trevor’s excited laughter made her open them.
"We’re doing it!" Trevor shouted.
The sled zipped down the slope, dodging bumps and twists. Trevor leaned left to avoid a tree, and Jackie leaned right to keep them steady. Before they knew it, they reached the bottom, skidding to a stop in a pile of soft snow.
"We made it!" Jackie cheered, tumbling off the sled with laughter.
Trevor grinned. "See? Told you we could do it!"
The neighborhood kids clapped and cheered as Trevor and Jackie stood, brushing snow off their coats. "Wanna go again?" Trevor asked, holding up the sled.
Jackie smiled wide. "Absolutely! Let’s try a trick this time!"
Together, they dragged the sled back up the hill, ready for another thrilling ride, their fear replaced with confidence and joy.
