On a crisp autumn afternoon, ten little pumpkins were bouncing happily in Farmer Green’s pumpkin patch. They wobbled, rolled, and tumbled around, each with a number from one to ten painted on their bright orange skins. The pumpkins were excited because they were about to have their annual countdown race!
Farmer Green blew his whistle and called out, “Pumpkins, it’s time for the countdown! Remember, you’ll start at ten and count down to one. Whoever reaches one first will be the Pumpkin Patch Champion!”
The pumpkins cheered. They loved this part of the fall season—racing, counting, and having fun under the autumn sun.
10 Pumpkins Rolling
With a big, bouncy start, ten pumpkins began to roll down the hill.
“Ten pumpkins rolling, let’s start the race!” they chanted. “First to reach one will have a happy face!”
One pumpkin hit a pebble and rolled to the side. “Oops, now there are nine!” it laughed.
9 Pumpkins Bouncing
“Here we go! Nine pumpkins left, bouncing and twisting!” they sang.
One pumpkin got caught on a bump in the ground. “I’ll cheer you all on from here!” it chuckled as it spun to a stop.
8 Pumpkins Twirling
“Eight pumpkins now, twirling around. Down, down, down, we’ll spin to the ground!”
But one pumpkin veered off course and ended up on a cozy haystack. “Good luck, everyone!” it called. “Now there are seven!”
7 Pumpkins Leaping
Seven pumpkins bounced down the hill, leaping over sticks and leaves. “Seven pumpkins leaping, oh what a sight!”
One pumpkin made a silly hop and landed in a pile of leaves. “Six left now!” it laughed, its leafy hat now askew.
6 Pumpkins Tumbling
“Six pumpkins left, tumbling down, twisting and turning around and around!”
But one pumpkin bumped into a scarecrow and stopped with a giggle. “Five pumpkins left! Keep going strong!” it cheered.
5 Pumpkins Spinning
Five pumpkins rolled forward, picking up speed. “Five pumpkins spinning, almost to the end!”
But then one pumpkin zigged when it should’ve zagged and stopped by the old wooden fence. “Four pumpkins left! You can do it!” it shouted.
4 Pumpkins Bouncing
The last four pumpkins were getting closer. “Four pumpkins bouncing, not far to go!”
But one pumpkin wobbled too far to the side and stopped by a curious crow. “Only three left!” it crowed.
3 Pumpkins Racing
“Three pumpkins left, racing down fast!” they chanted as they zoomed past.
One pumpkin made a silly loop and landed near the patch of sunflowers. “Two pumpkins left, let’s see who wins!”
2 Pumpkins Twisting
Now, only two pumpkins were left, twisting and turning down the path. “Two pumpkins twisting, so close to the end!”
One pumpkin took a funny turn and rolled into Farmer Green’s boot. “One pumpkin left! Finish strong!” it shouted.
1 Pumpkin Wins the Race!
The last pumpkin wobbled and spun, finally reaching the finish line. “One pumpkin left, and now I’m here!” it cheered. The pumpkin glowed with pride as Farmer Green handed it a golden ribbon.
All the pumpkins cheered for their friend. “We had a blast, counting down from ten to one!”
And as the sun set on the pumpkin patch, Farmer Green said, “Another great race, pumpkins. You’re all champions in my book!”
With smiles all around, the pumpkins nestled together in the soft grass, dreaming of next year’s big race.
