Students from Janis Dismus Middle School were planning on attending this year a field trip to Liberty Science Center. Liberty Science Center (LSC.org) is a 300,000-square-foot learning center located in Liberty State Park on the Jersey City bank of the Hudson near the Statue of Liberty. I interviewed Ms. Marcellus, the 7th grade field trip Advisor about our upcoming trip to learn more!
Q: Why do you think field trips are important for students to go on?
A: Field trips give students the opportunity to have hands-on experiences and they are able to learn from each other and the world better.
Q: Why did you choose Liberty Science Center for the field trip?
A: “I love the Liberty Science center. I think that everybody will find something that they enjoy there whether they like science or not. They’ll learn more about the state, there are so many things to do.”
Q: How does this align to the curriculum? Why is this field trip specifically for 7th graders?
A: 21 century skills for communication, it discusses science in the sense of force and motion, it adress’ science standards ,social studies standards because people interact to their environment
Q: What exhibits are we planning on seeing?
A: Everybody gets a group and can choose where to go. The planetarium, volcanoes, and the angry birds exhibit are a given”
Q:How long have you been organizing the field trips?
A:Last year was my first year in this middle school. Prior to that, 7 years”

A:About $25
Q:When is the field trip?
A:Around the first week of April. Once the date is set, the permission slips will be sent out.
