As you know, JDMS has a very interesting variety of clubs. One of these is the Ukulele Club. The JDMS Ukulele Club is run by Ms. Motyka and is a ton of fun! Bring your own ukulele or borrow one of the donated ones. Thanks to the generosity of the Morristown Uke Jam, we have twelve unused ukuleles! You can learn to play a wide variety of songs and chords, and even suggest a few of your own. Ukulele Club is engaging and quite enjoyable! Learning the uke with your friends is a lot of fun. No prior knowledge is necessary. All you have to do is be committed to practicing and learning new chords on your own. Come and join us in room 205 and jam out!

Janis E. Dismus Middle School is the home of many fun and exciting clubs. The JDMS Garden Club is run by Mrs. DeEsposito. Mrs. DeEsposito partners with the Garden Club of Englewood to help make this club successful. “The goal of the JDMS garden club is to inspire young individuals to gain the love of gardening and to love the beauty of nature.”-Mrs. DeEsposito. Did you know our school has a garden? If you did not know, it is located just outside of the Media Center. In the Garden Club, we plant fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs. The JDMS Garden Club goes on yearly trips. Last year, the club went on a trip to the New York Botanical Garden. The club also does fun things to fund raise for their trips. In the past year we have held a bake sale to help fund raise for these trips. Last year they raised over $200. The Garden Club also has parties with pizza, treats, and more. They have these parties to celebrate all the hard work they did throughout the year.

On October 13, the world famous Harlem Wizards played at DMHS in Englewood! Many JDMS students attended the event. The Harlem Wizards are a professional basketball team that was created by Howie Davis in 1962. The Harlem Wizards are unique because while other basketball team focused on winning games, the Harlem Wizards are more focused on entertaining the crowd. The Harlem Wizards also perform for fundraisers with the goal of raising money for charity, schools and foundations around the world. They also hold the second longest winning streak in all of professional sports. During their visits here, the Harlem Wizards played against the teachers of JDMS. There was music and comedy for the family that was attending the event. Children did warm up with the Harlem Wizards, if they had a Wizards replica jersey and game ticket. Children also had an opportunity for a meet and greet with two or three Harlem Wizards if they had the Court-side Plus tickets! If you don’t believe us then here an interview from someone that went to the game whose name will not be named here, “It was really good!” said the student. We wanted to thank the Englewood PTA for organizing this amazing event for us!
