This year, the JDMS Student Council is supervised by Mrs. Steelman. The students in the Student Council are Nya Fulton, Sumner Bachrach, Aiden Cooper, Destiny Motly, Adaliz Berrios, Eric Korzhov, Remi Bachrach, Tejan Jahbraltarik Farrell, Chloe Voorhis, Jordan DeJesus and Emma Voorhis.
The co-presidents of the Student Council this year are Destiny Motly and Emma Voorhis.
These loyal members have meetings in which they discuss what to do for the school. On December 4th, 11th, and the 18th, the Student Council did a bake sale to fund their future endeavors.
In February, the Student Council will be holding a cook-off. In March, the Student Council will be hosting a talent show using the funds they have earned from the bake sale. Ben & Jerry’s also donated ice cream to help aid the Student Council in collecting money for the Australian wildfires in January.
“The goal of the Student Council is to provide students with leadership opportunities that promote a positive school culture and climate. We also aim to create more events for students to encourage school spirit.”- Mrs. Steelman
This marking period in Garden Club, members made Christmas center pieces. The Garden Club of Englewood joined our meeting to help us create the centerpieces. Another focus of the Garden Club this past marking period, was to plan out ideas for our school garden, like what to plant for the new season.
I also was able to interview two women from the Garden Club of Englewood. They informed me that their Club includes 64 members.
Their goal is to "work on making the Earth a better place", so they have been able to plant trees locally. Coming up this year is the Garden Club of Englewood’s 100th Anniversary.
We are very thankful that the Garden Club of Englewood is able to help our club grow and be apart of their mission!

A new club that came to JDMS is the Comic Book Club. Mr. Lax is running the Comic book club.
The Comic Book club is a club where you read comic books and discuss them. People in the club read dialogue from certain characters, like role-playing. Right now, the comic book club is reading Teen Titans comics from the DC Universe (Interesting!).
Teen Titans is about a group of teenagers who are superheroes and fight the bad guys. Teen Titans superheroes include Robin, Raven, Starfire, Beast Boy, and Cyborg.
