This week we are preparing to put together a research paper, and as usual this weeks reading goes hand in hand with our assignment. The article we read explains how sources are used improperly. The author keeps the audience engaged by using real life scenarios and comparing it to siting sources. For example, the article begins by complaining about slow drivers.
I have always known that it is important to give credit to the author out of respect and to give them credit for what they have written. However, I am now more knowledgeable on when it is appropriate to do so. For example, when adding a quote to your paper, you should give the audience some background on who you are quoting so they don't feel like the quote was random and doesn't belong. Another way to site your source properly is by letting the audience know where you got your information from. If it is a quote from a book you should include the page number, as well as the author and title of the book.
The most intimidating part of writing a paper in my opinion is the works sited page. I have gotten so over whelmed that I have completely left the works sited page out of my paper (Which is a HUGE no no by the way). However, this article has been helpful and eased my mind giving me the confidence I need to properly write my research paper.
