COSMIC podTEC

Storm 2013: 073-079

Model: IRI-2016

Instrument: COSMIC-1

VTEC maps

Top panel shows the VTEC values obtained by the podTEC measurements from COSMIC-1. The VTEC values were computed from the COSMIC receiver altitude (~800 km) up to the GPS altitude (~20.200 km).

Bottom panel shows the corresponding VTEC values computed using IRI-2016 model.

y-axis is related to the magnetic latitude of IGRF.

x-axis is related to the day of year.

Storm event main phase starts in the beginning of DOY 076.

VTEC histogram and correlation

Left panel shows the histogram of error between IRI-2016 and the VTEC values measured by COSMIC.

y-axis is related to number of occurrences of a specific error value.

x-axis is the VTEC error.

The mean error (µ) and standard deviation of the error (σ) are shown in the top-right side of the plot.

Right panel shows the correlation (r) of the VTEC measurements and IRI-2016 values.
