Echium candicans, commonly known as pride of Madeira, is a large herbaceous perennial subshrub, growing to 4-8 feet. It is a species of flowering plant in the family Boraginaceae, native to the island of Madeira. It is planted throughout the world as an ornamental plant especially for water conserving gardens. It is well suited for coastal California, but is also considered to be an invasive species. It can therefore be seen frequently along roadsides and gardens in Hope Ranch.
