Twenty Ramblers met at the Schowe residence in mid-afternoon on a warm autumn day for a "Walktoberfest." After friendly greetings we strolled down Monte Drive among the oaks with views toward the Santa Ynez Range. As we approached Laguna Blanca, still with plenty of water, we walked along the aptly name Lago Drive where we observed the antics of an inflatable Halloween dragon (see first photo below). Next, we turned left onto Camino Medio, also aptly named as the "middle way." Part way down that quiet lane we veered off to a trail that led us to the Laguna Blanca School on Paloma Drive. Paloma translates to "dove" so its name is perhaps indicative of the peaceful surroundings at the school. From there we rambled a short distance along Estrella ("star") and then steeply up Monte ("mountain") to return to the Schowe's.

There we cooled down in their elegant pool and cabana ("hut" of a three-sided wall facing a pool). Anne, Christina, and Tom had gone all out with Octoberfest and Halloween decorations. Anne created a special playlist of appropriate music for the occasion. Each Rambler chipped in a small amount for a big spread of food and drinks including pizza and even a small keg of draft beer. There were also chips and dips plus homemade Halloween cookies by Christina. The pool was a cool complement to the very warm weather and several Ramblers, most notably Margie/Mike Reinhart and Rob Hunt, demonstrated their springboard diving skills. After several hours of fun we all left with a warm feeling of Gemütlichkeit ("contentedness, comfort and relaxation").
