The Infant School opened on the 30th of May 1881 under the leadership of Mrs. C H Martindale. Kelly's Directory of Durham, Northumberland, Cumberland and Westmorland shows that in 1894 Bowesfield Lane Infants was under the control of Mrs C Martindale. There were 333 children on register with an average attendance of 299.

Junior Boys + Senior Boys
Bowesfield Lane Boys School opened in May 1881. Bowesfield Junior Boys opened on the 2 November 1885 under the Headship of Mr Noble. Prior to this the boys had been working in the Boys Department along with Senior Boys. On Monday January 6 1913 the Senior and Junior Boys became one department again.
