29 Jan 1940 Air Raid Warning ( siren) at 9.27. Water in shelters made it impossible to accommodate all boys present reasonably. Those living near school sent to their homes, remainder took cover. Boys accepted situation calmly + sensibly + carried out instruction without fuss. All clear sounded at 10.30 a.m; when teachers resumed their work.
16 Sept 1940 Air Raid Warning 2.35 to 2.44. The dispersal arrangements were carried out in satisfactory manner. Those chn. who lived within 5 min. went home, the remainder stayed in charge of the teachers. At St George's + Lightfoot Grove they went into the cellar of the bldg. + at the Congregational Ch they went to the public shelter opposite. At Lightfoot Grove a few of the younger boys were disturbed by the excited entrance of a hysterical woman who wanted her child. At 2.44 All Clear Signal went + the chn. returned to school. At 3.57 p.m a second warning sounded. The same procedure was followed. The children who stayed, remained in charge of teachers until the All Clear at 4.20 p.m.

The father of one of the scholars in Stand ll came to school this morning and stated that as the lads were coming into school on the previous Thursday the 12th, his boy George Galloway was pushed by the monitor Taylor against the hat pegs in the cloakroom. Mr Galloway says that the boy was injured in the head and has been gradually getting worse. The case is now so serious that the doctors hold out very little hope of the lads recovery.
Wed January 25th
School visited by the Rev G S Ordish who enquired into above case and checked registers.
Wed Jan 25th
The boy George Galloway died on Monday night and an inquest was held on Tuesday evening. The only evidence connecting Taylor with the case was that of the mother who stated that when the boy came home on the 12th he said he had been pushed against the pegs. Every boy in the class has been questioned but not one of them remembers seeing him fall or seeing him pushed by anyone. He did his work as usual in school and Mr Lawson noticed nothing strange about him. As far as we can learn he neither cried nor complained to anyone until he reached home. Dr Beatty, in his evidence, said he and Dr Hind had made a post mortem examination and were agreed that the cause of death was inflammation of the brain and might have been due to natural causes. There was no external appearance of a blow. The jury after a short deliberation found "That deceased died from inflammation of the brain and that there was no blame attached to the teaching staff".
Thurs Jan 26th
Closed school in the afternoon. All the teachers of this department and most of the lads in Stand ll attended the funeral of G Galloway.

Mon Nov 13th
The boy, Tom Walker, came to school this morning. Upon being questioned he admitted having been kicked by a Stand I boy. This coincides with the opinion expressed by William Somerville to whom the lad had been taken by the Inspector that the bruise could not have been caused by a thin stick but was probably caused by a very thick stick or a kick. Sent for the lad's mother and in her presence the lad admitted being kicked. In face of this and the doctors opinion Mrs Walker still persisted in saying she was quite sure Mr Hope had caused the bruise.
