General leave of absence is an absence for medical issues, military service, or other individual reasons (family matters, study abroad). Application for leave of absence can be made through the portal service within the specific period during the semester.
After the application for the academic leave, the visa(D-2) is expired. International student who takes a Leave of Absence will be deemed to have stopped their study in Korea. Students on academic leave must leave Korea within 14 days from the date of occurrence. The authorized length of stay will be automatically shortened regardless of the period printed on your visa or the dates printed on your Alien Registration Card.
Furthermore, ARC will be voided based on the change in your alien registration. Students must turn in your ARC at the international airport when you depart from Korea.
Early February(Spring Semester), or Early August(Fall Semester)
Procedure: UWINS → 학적(Academic Information) → 학적변동(Academic Status) → 휴학신청(Application for Academic Leave) → 신청(Registration) → 안내 및 도서대출 확인(Check Notice & Borrowed Book List) → 신청완료 (Register Submit)
※ When applying for Academic Leave, all books checked out must be returned.
※ Where to submit : Undergraduate Students – Academic Affairs Team(Students Building 1F), Graduate Students – Office of Graduate School(Main Administrative Building 4F)
Leave of absence should be commonly 3 years(Undergraduate Program).
The period for academic leave cannot be longer than 1 year (one semester or two semesters) at a time.
The maximum permitted period for a general leave of absence is 2 semesters.
The total leave of absence cannot exceed 6 semesters during the student’s enrollment.
Leave of absence for disease treatment: Necessity to submit diagnosis of more than 4 weeks issued by head of other general hospital
The maximum permitted period for Pregnancy Leave, childcare or Parental Leave is 4 semesters. The leave of absence due to female student pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare obligations will be counted separately.(Documents that certify pregnancy or maternity or family relations certificate are needed.)
New students, transferred students, students who entered again cannot leave of absence for the first semester.
If students would like to cancel the application for the academic leave, they should visit Academic Affairs Team and submit Request Form for Cancellation of Leave of Absence.
