The following electives runs for one semester at 4 periods per two-week cycle.
Financial Literacy
If you ever wondered about money, why earn it, how to make more of it, why do I have to pay tax and what is superannuation? Or you have you heard about Afterpay, credit cards, good debt and bad debt and wondered how these things all work to make you “street smart” when it comes to your finances. This subject aims to introduce the ideas of the financial world to students and to engage in thinking that will prepare them to consider their financial futures. The focus is connected to real-life financial decision making that will develop tangible skills that can be taken into adulthood.
Year 9 Bilingual Humanities - Geography and History
This subject will further extend students’ research skills and understanding in Humanities by delivering the Year 9 Core subject through the target language of German. This subject will further extend students’ research skills and understanding in History and Geography and Economics and begin to prepare students who wish to undertake one of these VCE Humanities studies in senior school. This unit focuses on topics such as The Industrial Revolution, Indigenous Resistance, Making a Nation, Economics, Biomes, Food Security and World War One. Throughout these topics students will not only develop a thorough understanding of historical periods and key geographic concepts, but will further enhance their primary source and data analysis skills and progress in their essay writing skills.
