Year 9

How is Year 9 Structured?

The Heathmont Model provides greater choice in learning for students in Year 9. Some elements of the curriculum are compulsory subjects for all students. These are represented in the table below in bold.

Students are also offered a range of electives that encourage further inquiry into different areas of the curriculum. In particular, the areas of Art, Technology and Languages. Further to this, students have the opportunity to accelerate their learning through choosing elective subjects at the Year 10 level.

In addition, students may choose a bilingual German course of study that provides instruction in at least one of the compulsory areas of study in the German language as well as the study of German as a subject.

New for 2025: Gender based core subject stream

For core subjects, Year 9 students may elect to continue in mixed gender classes, or may nominate for a gender based group. This is only for core subjects and all electives will be mixed gender. The rationale for this option is that it allows more specialised curriculum that caters to interest of students.
