If you’re ready to take your Drama skills to the next level, this Year 10 elective offers an exciting opportunity to grow as a performer. Over the semester, you’ll build on your expressive and performance techniques, explore a range of theatrical styles, and develop your ability to reflect on and analyse live theatre. 

One of the highlights of the course is the chance to collaborate with Year 11 and 12 students to create and perform a full production — an incredible opportunity to showcase your work to a live audience and gain real-world performance experience. You’ll also attend a professional theatre performance and work on both a solo monologue and an ensemble scene, helping you strengthen your individual presence and your teamwork skills.

Media - Film

Are you ready to turn your passion for film into a real-world production? Look no further than Year 10 Media Film, an elective designed to ignite your creativity and equip you with essential filmmaking skills. In this dynamic elective, you'll dive deep into the world of film. Here's a sneak peek at what awaits you:

· Genre Deep Dive: You'll kick things off by exploring film genres that truly excite you. This isn't just about watching movies; you'll become a genre expert, culminating in a captivating presentation you'll share with your classmates.

· Collaborative Filmmaking: Get ready to roll up your sleeves and work in a team to create your own short film! From the initial spark of an idea to the final cut, you'll experience every stage of film production. You'll have the chance to take on exciting roles such as:

o Scriptwriter: Bring your stories to life on the page.

o Storyboarding & Shot-listing: Visualize your film scene by scene.

o Camera Operator: Master the art of capturing stunning visuals.

· Deconstruct Teen Films: Ever wondered how your favourite teen movies are made? You'll analyse the construction of two iconic teen films, uncovering the media codes and conventions that make them so impactful. You'll even get to demonstrate your analytical prowess in a short and extended response test.

Media- Photography 

In Year 10 Media Photography, you’ll explore the power of the image through the lens of famous photographers and develop your own voice as a visual storyteller. This subject is a blend of creative experimentation and purposeful design, giving you the chance to build a photographic portfolio. 

You’ll begin by researching and analysing the work of a well-known photographer, learning how to break down powerful imagery and apply those techniques to your own projects. You’ll plan and develop your ideas through a pre-production process, refining your style, message, and methods. Using industry standard tools like the Adobe Creative Suite, you’ll learn to capture, edit, and present your images with clarity and impact. 

This subject is perfect for students who enjoyed the Year 9 Media elective or are curious about pursuing creative careers in photography, design, advertising or film. It also provides a strong foundation for VCE Media and Art Creative Practice.

Music 

Are you obsessed with a certain band, genre, or instrument? In Year 10 Music, you get to turn that passion into a project. This subject lets you choose your own focus—whether it’s rock bands, rap beats, lo-fi chill, jazz solos, shredding guitar, or creating epic film scores. You’ll research your chosen style or artist, then use what you’ve learned to perform, compose, and even produce music in that style.

You'll get hands-on with live performance, songwriting, and mixing tracks using industry tools. You’ll also build your knowledge in music theory, listening skills, and what makes great music tick.

This subject is perfect if you want to experiment, be creative, and take your music to the next level. Whether you’re a performer, a producer, or just someone who lives and breathes music—this is your stage.

Visual Communication and Design 

Visual Communication Design in year 10 encourages students to create individual designs and trial a variety of materials and design processes. Students will develop a sound understanding for architecture design by following a design process to create a three dimensional model of a Tiny Home. Students will learn to use technical drawing methods such as floorplans and elevations according to line conventions, to further demonstrate their architectural designs. Students will research a significant design period in history in order to use Adobe Illustrator to make a record album cover. This develops their understanding of graphic design within the Communication Design field.

It is expected that students will be self-motivated, have demonstrated a genuine interest and ability in the subject and be considering this as a subject to be studied at a higher level. These skills are transferable to VCE Visual Communication & Design and extend into other folio-based subjects such as Art Making and Exhibiting and Media

Visual Arts 

The Visual Arts Practice Elective is designed as a pathway into VCE Studio Arts or Art. This study encourages and supports students to recognise their individual potential as art makers and presents a guided process to assist their understanding and development of art making. This unit focuses on using sources of inspiration and individual ideas as the basis for developing artworks and exploring a wide range of materials and techniques as tools for communicating ideas, observations and experiences through art making. Students also explore and research the ways in which artists from different times and cultures have interpreted and expressed ideas, sourced inspiration and used materials and techniques in the production of artworks. 

It is expected that students will be self-motivated, have demonstrated a genuine interest and ability in the subject and be considering this as a subject to be studied at a higher level.
