Drama 

This Drama elective encourages students to take Drama to the next level. Over the course of a semester, students develop an understanding of various performance styles, strengthen their performance and expressive skills and continue to explore how to analyse and discuss external performance pieces. Students will get the opportunity to attend an external performance. The students will work on a monologue and an ensemble piece. This subject builds confidence and competency in group work which can lead to opportunities such as: the school production; small performances in and out of school; applying for extracurricular Drama programs; preparing students for VCE Theatre Studies or simply to teach students to get out of their comfort zone.

It is expected that students will be self-motivated, have demonstrated a genuine interest and ability in the subject and be considering this as a subject to be studied at a higher level.

Media- Film

Students explore the concept of representations in films and television programs. They will then use this new knowledge to complete a preproduction assessment where they write a synopsis of their proposed film which can be an animation or short movie, create a storyboard, shot-list and define the role of each team member. They will also need to indicate how they intend to incorporate modern technology into their film. There will be a series of practical lessons where students learn how to use and apply the technology which could include working with the green screen, lighting, animating and rendering. They then set about creating their film. This elective is a progression from the year 9 Media elective and is excellent preparation for students who intend to do further studies in VCE Media.

It is expected that students will be self-motivated, have demonstrated a genuine interest and ability in the subject and be considering this as a subject to be studied at a higher level.

Media- Photography 

Students will analyse selected photographers in order to create their own photographic portfolio. They will complete a pre- production assessment where they write an analysis of a well-known photographer’s work, create developmental work and define the subject, topic, style, genre, purpose, impact and outcome of their portfolio. They will also need to indicate how they intend to incorporate modern technology into their work. There will be a series of practical lessons where students learn how to use and apply the technology that includes working with the Adobe suite. This elective is a progression from the year 9 Media elective and is excellent preparation for students who intend to do further studies in VCE, especially Media.

Music Performance 

Aimed at students that wish to develop their performance skills for VCE music. This unit of work would run for 1 semester 3 periods per week. The elective develops student’s technical skills on their instruments through a variety of solo and group performance opportunities, they will also learn about setting up PA systems for performances. Music Performance offers a well-rounded unit of work during that will help develop student’s skills on their instruments, preparing them for VCE Music Performance: Group or Solo. Pathway: VCE Music Performance: Group or Solo Music Production If you are interested in developing skills in Music Composition, Script Writing, Sound Engineering, Backstage Theatre, Lighting, Acting or Music Performance this subject is for you! The Music Production Elective gives all students the opportunity to participate in a hands on subject that develops many different areas of Music and Drama. You do not have to be a performer or actor to be an integral part of a performance! It is expected that students will be self-motivated, have demonstrated a genuine interest and ability in the subject and be considering this as a subject to be studied at a higher level. 

This subject leads to VCE Music and Theatre Studies.

Visual Communication and Design 

Visual Communication Design in year 10 encourages students to create individual designs and trial a variety of materials and design processes. Students will develop a sound understanding for architecture design by following a design process to create a three dimensional model of a Tiny Home. Students will learn to use technical drawing methods such as floorplans and elevations according to line conventions, to further demonstrate their architectural designs. Students will research a significant design period in history in order to use Adobe Illustrator to make a record album cover. This develops their understanding of graphic design within the Communication Design field.

It is expected that students will be self-motivated, have demonstrated a genuine interest and ability in the subject and be considering this as a subject to be studied at a higher level. These skills are transferable to VCE Visual Communication & Design and extend into other folio-based subjects such as Art Making and Exhibiting and Media

Visual Arts 

The Visual Arts Practice Elective is designed as a pathway into VCE Studio Arts or Art. This study encourages and supports students to recognise their individual potential as art makers and presents a guided process to assist their understanding and development of art making. This unit focuses on using sources of inspiration and individual ideas as the basis for developing artworks and exploring a wide range of materials and techniques as tools for communicating ideas, observations and experiences through art making. Students also explore and research the ways in which artists from different times and cultures have interpreted and expressed ideas, sourced inspiration and used materials and techniques in the production of artworks. 

It is expected that students will be self-motivated, have demonstrated a genuine interest and ability in the subject and be considering this as a subject to be studied at a higher level.
