Wise is a nobleman from the Ashmonte family–one of the four houses that govern Burga–and is behind his older brother, Shane, to being the head of the house. Growing up in the shadow of his accomplished older brother, Shane, Wise was constantly measured against an impossible standard. No matter what he achieved, it was never enough to earn the same praise or respect, leaving the brothers with a strained relationship and Wise questioning his own worth.
Rather than continuing to chase Shane's example, Wise sought validation elsewhere. Using his noble status and natural charisma, he reinvented himself as a popular male idol, embracing the admiration and attention he had long desired. While his carefree image brought him fame, it also damaged House Ashmonte's reputation and reinforced the perception that he lacked the discipline expected of Burga's nobility.
After House Zerendi was chosen to become Burga's next ruling house, Winifred exploited Wise's desire to be accepted and convinced him to gather information on behalf of the White Lions. However, after witnessing the growing threat facing Burga and learning the truth behind Celyste's actions, Wise refused to judge an entire nation based solely on Burga's perspective. Choosing to aid the White Lions of his own free will, he became instrumental in strengthening the alliance between Burga and Celyste. During the journey, he also forged a particularly close friendship with Prince Joseph, one built on mutual trust and respect.
Wise later plays a crucial role in the White Lions' escape from Jacotta, using his connection to Shane to secure safe passage through Burga and an escort back to Ametona. Depending on the player's choices, the brothers may finally begin to repair their strained relationship after arriving safely. That reconciliation is tragically short-lived, however, as Wise soon learns that Shane has been transformed into a monster.
Wise is a charismatic and flamboyant nobleman who thrives on attention. He constantly proclaims himself the most handsome man in Aurumasse, the greatest wyvern rider of all time, or simply the best at everything, turning nearly every situation into an opportunity to perform. His confidence is loud, theatrical, and often deliberately ridiculous, but it is not entirely an act. Wise genuinely believes that confidence gives people strength, and he refuses to let embarrassment, criticism, or danger prevent him from enjoying life.
Beneath that bravado, however, Wise is deeply insecure about his worth. Years of being compared to his older brother left him desperate to prove that he is talented, important, and deserving of affection in his own right. His constant boasting and hunger for popularity developed partly as a defense against being dismissed as the lesser Ashmonte. Even when he appears completely self-assured, references to Shane can quickly expose the doubts he tries to bury. Wise does not merely want admiration; he wants reassurance that the people closest to him genuinely value him.
Despite his vanity and occasional irresponsibility, Wise is remarkably affectionate and loyal. He openly expresses his feelings, enjoys making others laugh, and places enormous importance on sharing life with the people he loves. He can be flirtatious and high-maintenance, but he is also encouraging, emotionally perceptive, and willing to offer others the validation he rarely received himself. Wise believes strongly in personal growth and second chances, both for himself and for people whom society has already written off.
Wise is also more thoughtful than his public image suggests. Although he initially approaches unfamiliar people with the prejudices of his upbringing, he is capable of listening, reconsidering his assumptions, and acknowledging uncomfortable truths. His willingness to understand perspectives beyond Burga’s nobility reflects a genuine belief that people should be judged by their choices and potential rather than their birth. Wise may present himself as carefree and self-absorbed, but his strongest decisions are ultimately driven by compassion, loyalty, and a sincere desire to become someone worthy of the love and admiration he seeks.
On Chapter 16, Route A/B: Recruit by talking with Winifred. If not recruited, Wise automatically joins at the end of the chapter.
On Chapter 16, Route C: Wise automatically joins when monsters appear on the map.
Starting Class: Wyvern Rider (Lance)
Promotion #1: Wyvern Knight (Lance / Pierce)
Promotion #2: Dragonlord (Lance / Axe)
Wise joins as one of the strongest physical units in the game and quickly establishes himself as a reliable flier for the remainder of the campaign. True to a wyvern rider, Wise boasts high base Power and Defense alongside respectable Skill and Speed. However, while his bases reflect a traditional wyvern, his growths tell a different story. Wise possesses excellent Dexterity, Speed, Luck, and Resistance growths, allowing him to gradually transition from a durable front-line combatant in the midgame into a fast, evasive, and remarkably consistent unit by the endgame. Although his HP and Power growths are slightly lower than expected for the class, his balanced stat spread ensures he rarely falls noticeably behind.
Wise joins in Chapter 16 while the player's army is still taking shape, giving him plenty of time to establish himself as a core member of the team. He is required for Chapter 17 and is a natural deployment choice throughout the Burga arc, where his flying movement allows him to reach areas inaccessible to most other units. His mobility becomes even more valuable during later chapters featuring large maps, difficult terrain, and distant objectives. Combined with his strong Fire affinity and excellent support options, Wise has little difficulty finding a permanent place on most teams.
Wise's class options are Wyvern Knight and Dragonlord. While Dragonlord further improves his Power and Defense while granting access to axes, Wyvern Knight is generally considered the superior promotion. The class better complements Wise's natural growths and grants access to Pierce, which allows him to threaten heavily armored enemies.
Wise continues to excel throughout the late game. Large maps, desert terrain, and numerous objectives heavily reward flying mobility, while access to Dorado, the legendary monster-effective lance, allows him to remain an exceptional offensive threat against many endgame enemies. Combined with Pierce and his well-rounded stat spread, Wise remains consistently valuable until the final chapter, and he can even be a powerful ace against defensive bosses like Dracbolla.
Wise's weaknesses are relatively minor compared to his many strengths. Like all wyvern riders, he must be mindful of bows and Thunder magic, as their effectiveness remains a constant threat throughout the game. Wise can also experience the occasional unlucky stretch of level-ups, particularly in Speed, which may temporarily delay his offensive potential. Even then, his excellent mobility, strong bases, and balanced stat spread ensure he remains a dependable contributor from recruitment until the end of the game.
Overall, Wise may go through a brief adjustment period in the midgame as his unique stat spread begins to develop, but he only becomes stronger as the game progresses. By the endgame, he is capable of excelling in nearly every important stat. Combined with innate flying utility, excellent availability, access to Pierce, Dorado, and one of the strongest support affinities in the game, Wise is among the best units in The Lonely Mirror. While he proudly claims to be the "Best Ever," players may discover that his confidence is surprisingly well earned.
Wise is a handsome young nobleman with tousled light brown hair, warm brown eyes, and a neatly trimmed beard. He is almost always seen wearing a confident smile, reflecting his outgoing and charismatic personality. His teal-and-gold armor complements his expressive features and relaxed demeanor, giving him a far more approachable appearance than many of Burga's other nobles. Riding a distinctive amber-colored wyvern, Wise cuts a striking figure wherever he goes.
Wise and Joseph are widely considered one of the strongest support pairings in the game. Their Fire and Wind affinities provide exceptional offensive bonuses, while both characters naturally remain together as flying units after promotion.
Although Wise constantly boasts about his own abilities, he secretly struggles with feelings of inadequacy after spending his childhood in Shane's shadow. Much of his confidence is rooted in a desire to prove that he is worthy in his own right.
Despite his carefree image, Wise is one of the game's most politically open-minded nobles. He is willing to question Burga's assumptions about Celyste and judges people by their actions rather than their birth.
Wise is the only playable character who joins as a Wyvern Rider. The game's other recruitable wyvern units, Shane and Alex, both join as Dragonlords.
Unlike a traditional Wyvern Rider, Wise's growth rates more closely resemble those of a Pegasus Knight. His exceptional Dexterity, Speed, Luck, and Resistance allow him to develop into one of the game's most balanced flying units.
Despite being the younger Ashmonte brother, Wise is the one with facial hair. His rugged appearance contrasts with Shane's clean-cut, traditional image, subtly reflecting the different paths each brother chose in life.
Although Wise constantly flirts with others, he often becomes surprisingly flustered when his feelings or affections are genuinely reciprocated.
Wise is one of the six men featured in the male beach gaiden.
