Silvan grew up in a well-off household where his parents expected him to take over the family trade as a blacksmith. Despite years of practice under his uncle, Silvan never found success at the forge and gradually came to believe he was living someone else's life. Feeling trapped and like a failure, he eventually ran away from home and found acceptance among a small group of brigands.
Although Silvan never enjoyed violence, he participated in looting villages to secure food, beer, and other supplies for his new companions. As the guilt of his choices began to weigh on him, he turned to overeating and excessive drinking as a way to cope, eventually gaining the large belly that would become one of his defining physical features. Hoping to make amends, Silvan returned home to reconcile with his parents, only to discover they no longer accepted the man he had become.
With nowhere left to go, Silvan drifted back into petty banditry, eventually terrorizing the village of Rinto in search of food and alcohol. His actions drew the attention of the White Lions, who defeated him after answering the villagers' request for help. Boone is then given the choice to either offer Silvan a second chance or send him to Illwish Island.
If Boone chooses to trust him, Silvan later reunites with the White Lions in Bydale and repays Boone's faith by joining the mercenary company. Determined to leave his old life behind, he embraces the opportunity for redemption and gradually becomes one of Boone's closest friends and most trusted companions.
If Boone instead sends Silvan to Illwish Island, he is ultimately transformed into a beast. Stripped of his humanity, Silvan wanders Aurumasse as a berserk monster, and his fate after the world's restoration remains unknown.
Silvan is easygoing, cheerful, and endlessly sociable, rarely missing an opportunity to share a drink, a hearty meal, or a laugh with those around him. Although his carefree attitude, love of beer, and occasional recklessness often make him appear irresponsible, Silvan possesses a surprising emotional intelligence and is far more perceptive than he first lets on. He has an uncanny ability to lift others' spirits, offering encouragement through humor, simple wisdom, and genuine friendship.
Having spent time among bandits and struggled with alcoholism, Silvan openly acknowledges the mistakes of his past without allowing them to define him. While he still enjoys drinking a little too much and isn't above making questionable decisions, he no longer finds fulfillment in the reckless lifestyle he once lived. Instead, he values authenticity above all else, believing true happiness comes from accepting yourself and surrounding yourself with people who genuinely care about you.
Above everything else, Silvan treasures the bonds he shares with his friends. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is fiercely loyal to those he considers his "bros," never hesitating to remind them how much they mean to him. Although he dreams of one day finding a wife, what he truly longs for is a simple life filled with good food, good beer, deep conversations, and the companionship of the people he loves most. Beneath his carefree exterior is a man who has quietly found peace with himself and is determined never to lose the family he chose.
Choose to give Silvan a second chance at the end of Prelude I by selecting "Yes" when prompted. Then, in Chapter 13, recruit him by having Boone speak with him.
Starting Class: Brigand (Axe)
Promotion #1: Berserker (Axe / Crit. Boost)
Promotion #2: Warrior (Axe / Bow)
Silvan is one of the strongest physical units in the game and a frequent contender for the best axe user overall. Joining in Chapter 13 with excellent bases, he requires very little investment before becoming one of the army's premier front-line combatants. His combination of immense HP, high Strength, outstanding Dexterity, respectable Speed, and one of the highest Constitutions in the game allows him to excel with virtually every axe available. Unlike most axe users, Silvan rarely struggles with accuracy. His exceptional 60% Dexterity growth—the highest among the game's axe specialists—allows him to reliably wield axes that other units may find inconsistent.
Silvan's enormous Constitution allows him to wield even the heaviest axes without suffering Speed penalties, giving him surprising doubling potential despite his large build. It also makes him one of the best rescue units in the game, capable of carrying heavier allies that few other characters can lift. The downside is that Silvan himself is extremely difficult to rescue, limiting certain rescue-drop strategies.
Silvan's greatest weakness is his abysmal Luck and Resistance. Enemy Thunder mages in particular pose a serious threat, because their naturally high critical hit rates can instantly defeat him. Fortunately, this weakness can be managed by taking advantage of his fast-building support with Boone, which grants valuable critical avoid.
Silvan also benefits from one of the strongest support pairings in the game. Boone is force deployed throughout Part 2 and naturally forms a fast support with Silvan. Their Ice and Anima affinities provide exceptional defensive bonuses, dramatically improving Silvan's survivability while simultaneously patching Boone's weaker areas. Because both characters strongly prefer supporting one another, players lose very little opportunity cost by fielding them together.
Another of Silvan's drawbacks occurs before he even joins. Recruiting him requires giving up a Speedwing obtained during Prelude I, forcing players to decide between an immediate permanent stat booster or one of the strongest combat units in the game. Players intending to recruit Silvan should view this as a long-term investment, as he more than repays the opportunity cost if trained.
Overall, Silvan is one of the strongest physical units in the game and a legitimate contender for the best axe user available. His outstanding bases, excellent long-term growths, unrivaled Constitution, and remarkable accuracy allow him to dominate nearly every physical matchup. Although his poor Luck and Resistance require some attention, these weaknesses are easily mitigated through supports and equipment. Silvan makes a good candidate to wear the Amulet later in the game to remove the threat of critical hits altogether. Players willing to invest in Silvan are rewarded with an exceptionally durable powerhouse capable of carrying the army from the moment he joins until the final chapter.
In keeping with his vices of drinking and gluttony, Silvan has pronounced abdominal obesity. While his massive belly is his most defining physical characteristic, he also possesses muscular arms and considerable physical strength. Silvan has messy brown hair, a short goatee, warm brown eyes, and bears both an ear piercing and a tattoo from his days as a brigand. His attire consists primarily of simple trousers and distinctive pink shoulder armor, leaving his midsection exposed. According to Silvan, he stopped wearing shirts after repeatedly tearing them over his growing belly, and now he proudly shows it off as a symbol of accepting himself.
Alternate Appearance (Spoilers!) ᐊ-
As a lizardman, Silvan resembles a large alligator with rugged brown scales, a broad snout, and heavy jaws. His stout, thick-bodied build carries over from his human form, giving him a stockier appearance than most monster units while still conveying immense physical strength. Despite his transformation, he retains his signature pink shoulder armor, making him immediately recognizable on the battlefield.
Silvan is both a boss and an enemy character.
Silvan has the highest Dexterity growth of any dedicated axe user, making him one of the most accurate axe wielders in the game.
Silvan has the highest base Constitution in the game, allowing him to wield the heaviest axes without losing Speed and rescue allies that few other units can carry.
Silvan is frequently regarded as the best unit in the game- it's highly recommended to let him go in Prelude I so that you can recruit him later. However, if you instead choose to turn Silvan in, you'll receive a Speedwing.
Silvan's recruitment depends entirely on Boone's decision to give him a second chance at the end of Prelude I.
If Boone refuses to spare Silvan, he is sent to Illwish Island, and his ultimate fate remains unknown.
Although Silvan openly says he would like to find a wife someday, he repeatedly admits he is happiest spending time with "the bros."
Silvan and Boone's paired ending is the only epilogue in the game to feature a unique character portrait, depicting Boone after gaining weight from years of sharing food and beer with Silvan.
