Roxie grew up in Jacotta, where her older brother was the only family she had. During a wolf attack, Roxie sensed that something terrible was about to happen and wanted to intervene, but her brother ordered her to stay back. She listened, and he was killed. Unable to forgive herself for ignoring the danger she sensed, Roxie made a promise that she would never make the same mistake again. From that day forward, if her instincts told her someone was in danger, she would act, regardless of where they led her.
That sense eventually revealed itself to be something far stranger than instinct: a supernatural ability to foresee the deaths of people close to her. When one of her premonitions becomes particularly strong, Roxie can even begin sleepwalking, traveling great distances without realizing it as her body seemingly guides her toward the person in danger. Her gift has allowed her to prevent tragedies, but it has also become a burden she cannot escape. Roxie's visions only warn her of death and disaster, never of the good things awaiting the people she cares about, leaving her constantly aware of dangers that may never come to pass.
Roxie is found in the ruins of Granrei when Leah and her group journey there to better understand the events that sparked the war between Celyste and Ametona. It is there that they discover berserk soldiers from both nations, with Roxie's premonitions having drawn her into the ruins as well. Roxie continues traveling with Leah's group afterward and eventually meets the White Lions when the two parties unite during Chapter 8.
In Part 2, Roxie's premonitions once again determine where her journey takes her. Depending on the player's choices, she may be drawn directly to the White Lions during Chapter 12 as the group comes under attack from the Proclaimers. Recognizing that the people she once traveled beside remain in danger, Roxie chooses to stay and fight alongside them. Alternatively, her visions lead her to an encounter involving Pepper and the Iron Thistle pirates during Chapter 23A or 24B, where crossing paths with her former companions once again brings her back into the White Lions' journey.
Roxie is remarkably warm and grounded when interacting with others. She places tremendous value on companionship and believes people are better off facing life's difficulties together. She notices when those around her isolate themselves and gently encourages them to open themselves to friendship, while rarely forcing the issue when they prefer their solitude. Roxie is also quick to encourage the dreams of others, perhaps because her own life has been dictated so heavily by circumstances beyond her control.
Roxie is selfless and fiercely protective, shaped by a lifetime of trying to prevent the tragedies her visions show her. When she senses that someone she cares about is in danger, helping them becomes almost an obligation, and she will follow her premonitions wherever they take her. She rarely speaks of her gift as a burden, even though it clearly weighs on her. Instead, Roxie accepts the strange direction it has given her life and takes comfort in knowing that her actions can change someone's fate.
Roxie has also developed a surprisingly casual sense of humor about her unusual condition. She speaks warmly and somewhat formally, but she can also joke about waking up in strange places or the absurd situations caused by her sleepwalking. For someone whose visions exclusively show her tragedy, Roxie maintains a remarkably optimistic outlook, choosing to focus less on the terrible futures she sees and more on the fact that she may still have the power to change them.
Part 1: Roxie is recruited in Chapter 5. Enter the ruins near the chest with any character to bring her into the party. She is missable if this is not done before the chapter ends.
Part 2: Roxie's recruitment is contentious with Liang's — the two share a recruitment window, and securing one typically comes at the other's expense.
Primary route (Chapter 12, Quest): Requires that Liang and Roxie were both recruited and survived Part 1. First, accept the tome offered on Chapter 11. Then open the door on Chapter 12 to recruit her.
Conditional route (Chapter 23A / 24B): If Roxie was not recruited through the Chapter 12 quest, she can still be recruited here, provided she survived Part 1 and Liang was either recruited in Chapter 11. Use a flying unit to enter the northern sandbar. Note: Roxie only appears through this route if the total party size is below a certain threshold.
Starting Class: Occultist (Dark)
Promotion #1: Witch (Dark / Crit. Boost)
Promotion #2: Oracle (Dark / Light)
Roxie is one of the more unusual magic users in The Lonely Mirror, with an extremely focused stat spread that allows her to develop into arguably the game's premier Nosferatu tank. She joins Leah's party at level 5 with respectable bases, including an impressive 8 Power and 7 Defense, and her growths double down on those strengths with an exceptional 70% Power growth and 40% Defense growth. However, Roxie pays heavily for those strengths elsewhere. Her 30% Dexterity and 35% Luck do little to offset the questionable accuracy of Dark magic, and her 45% HP growth is surprisingly poor for a character who wants to absorb attacks. Roxie will hit extremely hard and become remarkably durable, but she is also likely to miss attacks and have far less HP than her defensive role would suggest.
Early investment is critical to Roxie's success, as she benefits greatly from consistent deployment and does not respond well to being moved in and out of the party. Luckily, Roxie has several chapters to train during Part 1. With enough investment, she can enter Part 2 prepared to serve as the army's premier Dark magic user. However, if she is not recruited until Chapter 23A or 24B, her low level leaves her dramatically behind the rest of the army, making her so difficult to salvage that a late-joining Roxie is arguably the worst unit in the game.
Roxie's greatest payoff is her ability to function as a magic tank against physical enemies. Her combination of enormous Power and unusually high Defense allows her to occupy terrain or chokepoints with Nosferatu, absorb physical attacks, and restore much of the damage she receives through counterattacks. Few magic users can replicate this role as effectively. Her mediocre Resistance means she is less impressive against enemy magic, and her poor HP can undermine her otherwise excellent durability. An Angelic Robe is therefore particularly valuable for Roxie, as additional HP directly complements the role her Power and Defense naturally push her toward. Other stat boosters can similarly accelerate her development, but this creates meaningful opportunity cost: resources spent bringing Roxie toward her ceiling cannot be given to another member of the army.
Both of Roxie's promotion options have merit. Witch doubles down on Roxie's offensive potential, offering a higher Power cap and an innate critical bonus while continuing to specialize exclusively in Dark magic. Oracle is generally the more well-rounded choice and grants access to Light magic alongside Dark magic. The greater accuracy of Light spells helps compensate for Roxie's poor Dexterity and the inconsistent hit rates of Dark magic, while her exceptional Power allows even weaker spells such as Light and Shine to hit surprisingly hard. Oracle also offers better Defense potential and mounted mobility, both of which complement Roxie's role as a frontline magic user. Witch can push Roxie's raw offensive ceiling higher, but Oracle gives her greater consistency and flexibility without sacrificing her ability to tank with Nosferatu.
Tenebris is particularly well suited to Roxie, as the tome pierces enemy defenses and deals damage based on the user's Power, taking full advantage of her exceptional Power growth. As a dedicated Dark magic user, Roxie can also reach the required weapon rank earlier than characters who gain Dark magic as a secondary weapon type, like Joseph. Outside of monster-effective magic such as Bright Runes and Seraphim, this makes Tenebris arguably one of the best options for taking down endgame threats.
Perhaps the greatest consideration when evaluating Roxie, however, is Liang. Their Part 2 recruitment windows are closely intertwined, and securing Roxie in Chapter 12 will typically come at the expense of recruiting Liang at that point. The two offer completely different benefits. Liang provides immediate utility and can make the earlier portions of Part 2 easier, while Roxie asks the player to continue an investment started during Leah's campaign in exchange for considerably greater long-term combat potential. This makes Roxie's opportunity cost unusual, as the player is not simply deciding whether she deserves experience and stat boosters, but whether her eventual payoff is worth giving up another useful character.
Roxie's weaknesses ultimately come down to consistency and investment. Her low Dexterity combined with Dark magic's accuracy means missed attacks will be a regular part of using her, while her poor HP growth can require additional resources before her defensive potential truly comes together. More importantly, Roxie requires commitment. If she is consistently trained during Part 1, given the resources she needs, and recruited again at the earliest opportunity, she can develop into a powerful and distinctive magic user who hits extremely hard and handles physical enemies better than almost any other mage. If she is repeatedly moved in and out of the active party, much of that potential disappears.
Overall, Roxie is something of a feast-or-famine unit. She is difficult to place among the game's strongest characters because the opportunity cost required to reach her ceiling is significant; she is not a unit to train halfway, and choosing Liang can provide more immediate value during a difficult portion of the campaign. However, players willing to commit to Roxie are rewarded with something difficult to replicate elsewhere: an exceptionally powerful Dark magic user with the physical durability to function as a frontline tank. If Roxie's unusual strengths appeal to the player, investing in her from the moment she joins is the best way to ensure that she lives up to her considerable potential.
Roxie is a young woman with dark skin, red eyes, and striking bright red hair that partially covers the left side of her face. During the Celyste-Ametona War, she wears her thick, wavy hair loose, with much of it swept heavily to one side. She wears a tan hooded cloak over a purple outfit, along with several white bands around her neck.
After the timeskip, Roxie's overall appearance remains similar, but she changes her hairstyle considerably. She keeps the same side-swept bangs covering part of her face, while the rest of her hair is pulled back into a large bun, giving her a slightly more mature appearance. Her clothing otherwise remains largely unchanged.
Roxie is one of only two units (alongside Liang) whose Part 2 recruitment is directly tied to the other's survival in Part 1.
Roxie is the most readily available dedicated Dark magic user in the game. Other primary Dark magic users such as Violet, Sterling, and Irina are either route-dependent or join considerably later.
At 70%, Roxie's Power growth is the highest of any dedicated magic-using class in the game. The only character with a higher power growth in the game is Alouette, who while uses runes and staves, has a very late join and cannot use dedicated magic attacks.
Roxie's 40% Defense growth is the highest among the game's offensive magic users. Shiloh and Yvette are the only two magic users that can match Roxie; however, Yvette can never gain attack magic.
Roxie has one of the largest potential differences in viability based on when she is recruited. A Roxie trained during Part 1 and recruited in Chapter 12 can become a powerful endgame unit, while a Roxie recruited in Chapter 23A or 24B joins dramatically underleveled.
Roxie's premonitions only show negative outcomes. She can foresee deaths and other dangers involving people she cares about, but never receives visions of positive events.
Roxie secretly saved Atticus's life years before he ever realized it. Despite Atticus claiming the scar on his face came from winning a knife fight, he actually slipped while training, accidentally cut himself, and nearly drowned before Roxie rescued him.
