Kathryn was born in the Geminy region of Ametona and spent much of her life serving the Ametonan royal family as Princess Leah's personal handmaid and attendant. Known for her diligence and reliability, Kathryn became one of Leah's closest companions, assisting with everything from her daily needs to maintaining her equipment and providing medical care.
When Celyste launched its invasion of Ametona, Kathryn remained at Leah's side during the fall of Ametona Castle. Alongside Grant and Vergil, she helped escort the princess to safety so they could reunite with Queen Loretta. Even while fleeing, Kathryn's foresight was evident, and she secured a valuable Blue Gem from the castle to help fund the group's journey. Throughout the war, she continued to serve as Leah's most trusted attendant while providing vital healing and support to her allies.
Kathryn's attentiveness repeatedly proved invaluable. During the journey, she was the first to sense Jabari's ambush, narrowly avoiding his surprise attack and warning the others of the danger. Following the war, her role in ending the conflict and her extraordinary skill as a healer earned her recognition throughout Aurumasse. Queen Loretta later granted Kathryn a noble title and entrusted her with governing the Geminy region of Ametona.
Although still adjusting to her new responsibilities, Kathryn chooses to set aside thoughts of nobility until the world's immediate crisis has passed. She once again joins Leah and her Ametonan companions, determined to protect both her homeland and the people who have always depended on her.
Kathryn is kind-hearted, humble, and deeply devoted to helping others, and she finds fulfillment not through recognition but through acts of service. As Princess Leah's longtime handmaid and personal healer, she approaches every responsibility with exceptional care, whether tending wounds, maintaining equipment, or supporting those around her. Her gentle demeanor, meticulous nature, and unwavering reliability make her someone others instinctively trust.
Despite being recognized as one of Aurumasse's greatest healers and later elevated to nobility, Kathryn never views herself as extraordinary. She believes true leadership comes through compassion and service rather than authority.
Years spent assisting the Ametonan royal family have also made her remarkably observant, allowing her to absorb knowledge of leadership, diplomacy, and battlefield strategy simply by listening and paying attention to those around her.
Kathryn has a natural gift for bringing out the best in others. Whether mentoring aspiring healers, encouraging friends to pursue their dreams, or offering quiet guidance to those in need, she leads by example through kindness, humility, and genuine selflessness. Over time, she comes to accept that these qualities are what truly make her worthy of leadership.
Part 1: Kathryn is automatically recruited in the second turn of the Prologue.
Part 2: After the war ends, Kathryn leaves the party and rejoins automatically in Chapter 20: Hearts of Gray.
Starting Class: Cleric (Staff)
Promotion #1: Bishop (Light / Staff)
Promotion #2: Valkyrie (Light / Staff)
Kathryn serves as the player's primary healer throughout Part 1 and is the only staff user available during the opening chapters. While Lael eventually joins with access to both healing and Light Magic, Kathryn's significant experience lead and continued availability ensure she remains the party's most reliable support unit. Chapters 9 and 10 are also designed to encourage splitting the army into multiple groups, making the deployment of two healers especially valuable. As a result, Kathryn has little difficulty maintaining her level advantage before temporarily leaving at the end of Chapter 10.
Unlike Ariel, whose utility begins to taper off later in the game, Kathryn scales exceptionally well into the endgame. Upon promotion to Bishop, she gains access to Seraphim, one of the most valuable tomes in the game thanks to its effectiveness against every monster class. Since the final chapters are heavily populated by monsters, Kathryn transforms from a dedicated healer into one of the game's premier offensive support units. Her excellent Magic, Dexterity, and respectable Speed allow her to eliminate many of the game's most dangerous enemies while continuing to provide top-tier staff utility.
Among the game's Bishops, Kathryn stands alongside Shiloh as one of the strongest choices for the class. While Shiloh boasts superior bulk, Kathryn trades some durability for higher Speed and Avoid, allowing her to double enemies more consistently while remaining difficult to hit. Her only significant weakness is her low HP, though this is easily remedied with an Angelic Robe. Unlike many returning units, Kathryn also has little trouble rejoining an established army, as the generous staff experience formula allows her to immediately resume her role without requiring extensive retraining.
Overall, Kathryn is one of the strongest support units in the game and an outstanding long-term investment. While players may be tempted to rely on Ariel throughout the campaign or transition to Lael after Part 1, Kathryn's access to Bishop and Seraphim gives her a late-game niche that few units can rival. By combining elite healing with devastating anti-monster offense, Kathryn provides a level of utility that remains invaluable through the game's most difficult chapters.
Kathryn is a young woman with warm brown eyes and chestnut-brown hair tied into a practical ponytail, reflecting her humble and hardworking nature. During Part 1, she wears modest attire in soft pink and green tones befitting her role as Princess Leah's personal handmaid and healer. By Part 2, her attire becomes more elegant and ornate to reflect her new position as an Ametonan noble, though she retains the same gentle smile and modest demeanor that have always defined her.
Kathryn is the game's only playable Cleric and can promote into either Bishop or Valkyrie.
Kathryn is one of only two dedicated healers with access to the Bishop class, alongside Shiloh.
Kathryn is one of only five characters capable of promoting into a Bishop.
Despite temporarily leaving the party after Chapter 10, Kathryn can quickly regain relevance thanks to the generous staff experience formula.
While fleeing Ametona Castle, Kathryn remembers to bring a Blue Gem to help fund the group's journey.
Kathryn was awarded nobility by Queen Loretta following the Celyste–Ametona War despite beginning the story as Princess Leah's handmaid.
