Local community action on climate change and biodiversity
What's it all about?
We aim to be focal point and catalyst for local community action to address the climate and ecological emergencies in the village of Denmead, Hampshire, UK.
What are you trying to achieve?
A better-connected community that:
Has improved biodiversity and natural ecosystems and has greater appreciation of these for their ecosystem services.
Reduces greenhouse gas emissions and works towards being carbon negative.
Reduces unnecessary waste and works towards a regenerative circular economy.
Is more resilient to the impacts of a rapidly changing climate, for example by addressing food security and health concerns and promoting community spirit.
Overall, is more aware of the local climate and ecological challenges facing our village and takes greater responsibility for addressing them.
How will you achieve it?
Our activities will include:
Setting up working groups that take effective local action, supported by experts where possible.
Engaging the whole community. This will include raising awareness of achievable steps to take and behaviours to change that will make a difference, drawing ideas from the successes of similar campaigns elsewhere.
Connecting together any residents, community groups and businesses who have existing projects and ideas that will make a difference in our community, to help these have more impact.
Encouraging people to have fun, make friends and support each other while doing the above.
