Get involved!
Challenge cards were delivered to letterboxes (with Stay Local), school book bags, scouts, at village events and were available in shops. If you didn't get one you can Print your own.
The cards advertise the following challenges. We have finished counting the cards but you can still take part to make even more of a difference.
Once everyone who put a card in their window completes their 3 challenges, the Greening Campaign experts have estimated that together we would have...
Created 66 square metres to support nature to thrive
Planted 66 new crops of salad to help promote food security
Saved £858 and prevented 0.80 tonnes of CO2 by only boiling the water we need
Saved £16,632 and prevented 20.60 tonnes of CO2 by using the fridge correctly, and halving food waste
Had 198 conversations about climate change and how we feel.
When you add these figures together the savings are huge. So, please remember to do the challenges you committed to!
All savings are based on an average household over the course of one year. The financial savings of boiling a kettle are based on summer 2024 costs which have dropped to £13 per year. Each challenge's result is multiplied by 0.6 to reflect that people only committed to 3 of the 5 challenges.
You could:
Leave an area untended for nature to do its thing! Leave grass and wild plants (aka weeds) to grow. Leave dead leaves and twigs. You could even make a small pile of old logs or twigs and leaves. Make sure everyone knows not to tend it.
Create a pollinator patch with wildflowers.
This will contribute to our pollinator corridors project
Contact us if you need some seeds.
Make a small pond perhaps from an old washing up bowl
Window box: Turn an old washing up bowl or other container into a container garden for wildflowers.
See our guide from Garden Organic.

You could also grow pea shoots with cheap marrowfat peas from the supermarket and have harvests within 2-3 weeks! This works at any time of year
Only filling the kettle to the level of water you need could save £13 a year according to our experts.
This is because heating water is typically the most intensive use of energy in the home.
It helps to keep the kettle scale free.
Set your fridge to 5C
Store fruit and vegetables correctly: keep them in the fridge, except for: unripe bananas, onions and whole pineapples
You can also set yourself a reminder if food needs eating soon.
As the saying goes, it's good to talk.
Talk about any concerns you may have about climate change, and how you feel.
You could talk to friends, neighbours, work colleagues, or school friends.
If the person might have a different opinion to yours, this short video might help.
Your feelings
News reports that concern you
"I'm feeling worried about climate change, how do you feel about it ?"
"I'm concerned that it will affect my children's future"
Did you know ticks are more common now because of climate change?
Do you know when and how to check for them? And why you should?
