We are pleased to announce that we now have a site for our main community garden - located at Denmead Community Centre.
In March we got ‘spades in the ground’ and started to mark out places for new growing beds and circulation pathways
The garden will contain a number of raised and level beds to be used for growing a variety of vegetable and fruit crops, as well as some special feature growing areas
The garden aims to operate in a towards organic, sustainable and environmentally sensitive manner
We have drafted an initial layout plan, however, this can be adapted to accommodate new ideas
There is also a small garden area to the front of the site, which we started to use in 2025, where we will grow smaller crops such as herbs, fruit, and salad plants
We are now holding regular work sessions to help develop and plant out the garden
The sessions are held on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month - 1.30-3.30 pm
No experience needed - just bring your own gardening gloves
Further one off, or regular, sessions may be added as we go through the year. Join our mailing list to receive updates about when and where these events will take place.
We have an area for a small community garden at All Saints Church - this is an extension to the existing Wildlife Garden Project already established on site and will enable Greening Denmead, alongside the All Saints Church, to establish a growing area for crops
Work sessions for this site tie in with the Wildlife Garden regular sessions
All residents of Denmead will be welcome to:
Contribute your ideas to what we include in the garden
Visit the community gardens when they are open, see what plants are growing there, and participate as volunteers
Learn how to grow your own food - with an aim of towards organic and sustainable methods
We are seeking additional volunteers to help develop, run and maintain the gardens. Come and be part of a community garden run by, and for, the community.
We are also looking for suitable donations of garden construction materials, hand tools and plants/seeds to help keep costs down and help recycle items in a green manner
Please make contact if you can assist.

Following the success of previous plant and seed swaps, we’re hoping to run these regularly. If you have a surplus of seeds, or you’re overrun with plants, bring them along to one of these events. If you don’t have anything to swap, that’s absolutely fine too - come along and if something takes your fancy, just make a small donation.
