Locos which got hot boxes were a familiar sight under repair at Gloucester Barnwood but here is Barnwood's 41047 at Derby with the bogie wheels and front drivers removed on 17 July 1953. It still carries the legend 'BRITISH RAILWAYS' on the tender. A 'Casualty Report' would have been completed when it arrived on shed needing attention, rather than a 'No Repairs' ticket. The repairs were undertaken as less than a month later it was photographed arriving here with train 256 11.40am from Bournemouth, a regular Barnwood Compound turn for some years.
Illustrated here are some 'No Repairs' tickets for 22B Gloucester Barnwood locos.These were completed by drivers when stabling a loco on shed, just to confirm that no repairs were required for a loco and were forwarded to Barnwood. The sheds, all regular destinations for Barnwood locos coming off freight or passenger turns, and engines shown on the tickets are, from top left:
Leicester Midland 15C 44175 27 Aug 1954;
Derby 17A 41047 23 Dec 1952;
Saltley 21A 43506 24 Aug 1954;
Bournville 21B 43258 16 Aug 1954;
21C Bromsgrove 43924 16 Aug 1954;
Stratford-on-Avon 21D 44264 28 Aug 1954;
22A Bristol Barrow Road 44264 25 Aug 1954.
Stratford-on-Avon was reached via Ashchurch, Evesham and Broom Junction, then along the SMJ (Stratford-upon-Avon & Midland Junction) line.
A 'Foreign' loco which came to Barnwood had a 'No Repairs' ticket issued by the shed and forwarded to its home depot.
One illustrated below is for Stanier 8F 48363 whose home depot was 16A Toton. Other 'No Repairs' tickets for 48363 show it was also at Toton that day, being at Bescot the previous day and Saltley the following one.
The photo shows it at Badgeworth and heading towards Gloucester about 1960.
