Autumn 1954 Up and down LMR lines are having major engineering works on three Sundays in October between Standish Junction and Naas Crossing. All passenger trains between Bristol and Gloucester are being diverted over GW lines to Gloucester Central, where trains are reversed and re-engined.
Spring 1955 Weekend works trains run regarding brickwork repairs in Chedworth Tunnel appear to have finished, 43XX locos were the usual locos.
Winter 1955/56 Work at Lansdown Junction, Cheltenham, noted on 23 October 1955, meant wrong line running through Lansdown Station for up trains.
Winter 1956/57 The Toddington - Honeybourne line will shortly be entirely in the hands of the Engineering Department for about three months. Through expresses will be routed via Cheltenham Lansdown, Ashchurch and Norton Junction near Worcester, whilst local services to Honeybourne will terminate at Toddington, and passengers for beyond will be conveyed in buses as far as Honeybourne.
Cheltenham Lansdown Junction - plans have been completed and work will start almost immediately in putting in a complete redesigned junction layout. It will result in much improved access to all four roads to Gloucester from Lansdown and Malvern Road stations.
Plans for the reconstruction of Pumphouse Bridge which carries the main Gloucester to South Wales line over the Eastern channel of the River Severn at Gloucester, have been completed by the Western Region. The bridge will be rebuilt at a higher level with increased headroom for river craft; and the reconstruction of the east and west approaches including St. Catherine's and Ham Viaducts.
Summer 1958 Sapperton Tunnel on the Gloucester - Swindon line is again closed for the period of the Summer Timetable on Sundays for repairs. This is the third year. London trains to and from Gloucester are routed via Yate and Westerleigh.
Spring 1960 Hatherley Loop connecting the Gloucester and Cheltenham and Kingham lines is being lifted and dismantled. The bridge over Hatherley Road has been removed. A week prior to the removal, a double decker bus tried to pass under and lost its roof.
