Toy Chest

The toy chest was an ambitious project that was made to specifications for my granddaughter. I obtained the original plans from the Internet, and modified them to suite the available materials, and the Mom's suggestions.

Here is the link to the site that I found the plans on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4yMa3LQKQ0

Instead of painting the chest as suggested in the video, I stained it with a cherry stain. The case frame is made of poplar, and the sides are made of birch plywood. I decided to get a set of Rockler Torsion hinges to avoid squished fingers and a trip to the ER. Here is a link to an information site for the hinges: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW7J0GUdQkk

The front and the back of the chest have a white-board to mark on, and the sides have integrated book storage. The interior front and back are made of birch plywood that backs the white-board. As my grand daughter gets older, her dad can unscrew the white board and put the finished birch plywood on the front and back so it is more sophisticated looking.
