China Cabinet

The china cabinet has been a long term project that has involved the purchase of special router bits to make the various moldings, and the Shaker style doors. This project fostered the development of new skill sets on my part.

The face frames, door frames, and moldings are milled from solid cherry wood. The sides and tops of the cabinet are made of cherry plywood. The door panels are made of walnut plywood.

The door handles are made of walnut. The base of each handle is solid and the curved part is made of walnut that has been cut into thin strips, bent to shape and glued together.

The cabinet shelves are made of cherry plywood and faced with solid cherry inlay strips. The shelves are adjustable due to the holes drilled into the interior sides.

The cabinet is constructed of two cases and stacked together to form a single taller unit. The cases are held together by two cabinet construction screws on the inside.

The finish is from General Finishes and is a water based polyurethane. It adds a slight amber look to the color of the wood. All the colors of the wood are natural, and there is no stain on any part of the cabinet. Any color difference you see in the pictures is due to room lighting and camera flash, or lack of a flash.
