Wi-Fi 1 would have been 802.11b, released in 1999.
Wi-Fi 2 would have been 802.11a, also released in 1999.
Wi-Fi 3 would have been 802.11g, released in 2003.

Wi-Fi 5 is 802.11ac, released in 2014.
Wi-Fi 6 is the new version, also known as 802.11ax.
So you may have a Virgin Media router which is struggling to do the job. I had the HUB3 which was a total disaster for me and had to revert back to the Superhub2ac. This device is many years old and cannot cope. So one option is to set the router to modem mode and then use my own router. I plan to do this in the next month so will provide feedback as to the results.
