Dead Trees Walking 2 - the Upper Park

As of July 2019, bid proposal for the climbing structure is out and the permit has been given for construction. The Sun Gazette reported in April that construction will start at the end of the 2019 summer season.

Forty-seven trees will be cut in the upper park, including all the nice mature trees in the islands on the existing lot that provide shade to the pool, miniature golf and batting cage patrons, and generally help to keep the area a few degrees cooler on a hot day.

Also, the striking strand of Leyland Cypress that screens the water catch basin and parking lot will be axed (see below).

The need for more parking is questionable. Even on a hot Labor Day afternoon there are free spaces. In fact, people were leaving because the line to the pool was too long!

The lot looks full, but there are still empty parking spaces even as people line up (in photos at left) because the swimming pool is at capacity.

RFP for destroying the green/sledding hill

Nice to have some shade and greenery while walking to the pool on a hot Labor Day holiday!

Leyland Cypress - non-native but friendly! Doing what all trees do. Will be chopped down to expand parking lot on upper level. Climbing structure to be built on the nice green hill will fence the area off to free and open access year round.

Beautiful fall foliage on the green hill to be axed. Two red maples on left -- trees 1446-A and 1146-B -- on the chopping block.

Trees on parking lot islands, Leyland cypress, plus colorful bushes to be gone.

Parking lot will still be empty though.

When it snows, it is a good sledding hill!
