Freya's Final 90s Logic Project
Within my final Logic project composition, I decided to choose the 1990s starting point to adapt and turn into a full song. I closely listened to the hip-hop genre from the 1990s, as it was rising in popularity and many artists were using traditional African instruments combined with technology such as drum machines and synthesizers.
The instruments I have used to achieve my desired sound would be and hip-hop drum beat has the core to the song, combined with the drum beat machine. For the drum machine, put the settings on symbols and hit-hat with simple beat rhythm and fills. As it is the beginning of the song, I wanted to build the intensity, but starting simplistic.
The bassline, I kept simplistic as well to keep in line with the drums and not to make the song too complex at the beginning. The fingerstyle bass drops out before the chorus creeps in, as more instruments are later introduced and I wanted to change to mood completely when the chorus came along. To shock the listeners and make them feel a completely different mood from the verse. The Blazing Hot keyboard became the new bass section and came in the beat after the drum kicks.
The keys were not my strongest section, as I am not fully confident with what keyboard would sound or fit the best with my project, but I found that within the verse. The keys link in and out of the vocals to create different dynamics and I thought it would be too much if all sounds were messed together with no layering.
The modern strings and saxophone appear during the chorus, and as the verse begins to fade out, the loud note of the saxophone is heard along with the drum snare playing. Adding the saxophone, created a jazz feeling to the song which I liked and had heard within R&B music, R'n'B artists were producing a much smoother style, making significant use of saxophone and a rich vocal style reminiscent of soul.
