Within in this page I will be doing an overall evaluation of all of work that myself and the group have done. This will include the evaluation of our collaborations, and how successful were they. Additionally, the overall outcome of our EP. Looking at the positives and the negatives of the release and what we could do better. I will be going through these elements in more detail down below.
Me and my band's aim for our FMP, was to release four original tracks onto streaming platforms, as well as creating two music videos for one of those songs. We all did not release how much work goes into recording songs to a professional standard and we found ourselves a bit behind schedule. In which we had to make the decision to only do one music video, because of time and lacking ideas for a second video. The release of Get Busy, was a successful release, and we released the music video on the same day. We were able to release tracks that we were proud of and had worked hard on from previous terms and we have outcome quite a few challenges. But we were able to get through them and work together. Non of us had ever released music before on streaming platforms, therefore it was quite new to us how distribution worked. As we researched into it and how we could successfully promote our band through social media. Therefore, we hope to release more music in the future, with the right tools and people.
There definitely were a few challenges that we had to face as a group. Starting with the studio problems, while recording we did come across errors such as the inputs not working or the missing drum parts. These problems were quickly to be fixed, as it sometimes was due to a broken input, or not saving the logic account up correctly. These problems were short lived. The main problems occurred with our collaborators and the mixing process. To begin with, we started with our producer Seth Hopkins, who was up for mixing and mastering our tracks. The problem occurred when he became unreliable and lacked communication. There is not many positive things I could say about our producer collaborations as we did not receieve psosyve resuost fro Seth. Ultimately we had to find another producer. Our ther producer Coal took over from Seth, we gave him our refernce tracks and gave him a clear idea of our deadline and what we wanted done. Overall, Coal did a really good job with mixing Get Busy, but unfortunaely he let us downe with miixng the other tow tracks. This is where we had to take it into our own hands and mix the remaining three songs, instead of relying on another producer. Ultimately, communivation should of been better on both sides as we did leave some of the changes to last minute . In the future, we hope to be workign with much more trust worthy producer. As well as we will be getting mcuh better at recoriding, as we know what to expect now when we walk into a reocidng studio.
As mentioned beforehand about our collaborations with our producers and how we have not had a positive exeperience with working with the production students. Another part of our collaborations was designing the logo and cover art. This s where we worked with Josh's brother Harry Rawlings, we posive collaboration with Harry as we reieced a well designed logo and cover art. Josh did the main communication with Harry, in order for us to get the logo and cover art we want. Overall, we were all really happy with the results and would work with harry again. The logo was the msot impornat peice of art that we needed because this would help to determine our band's identity. We had a successful collaboration, espeically when we ask Harry last minute to design another cover art because we were releasing Get Busy as a single. I did not have any communication with Harry, but Josh was messaging all of us if there was anything we wanted in the logo. Therefore, the collaboration with Harry had been successful and he gave us a really good result. With the collaborative element of mixing and mastering, we ended up having another collaborator, with mixing 'Take it From Me'. Our friend Frazer helped us to mix the track which was a huge help and he was keen to get the track mixed to a professional standard.
Its improant to acknowledge the future success that we want to achieve after FMP. We want to keep persuing a career after our FMP, as we want to release more music together and build a bigger fanbase. As of at the moment we have just started out, as I newly joined the band early in the year, therefore I was quick to adapt with working with a new bunch of people. The rest of the group have been in the band since Septemeber, in which they were use to playing with one another. As a band we hope to be performing at more gigs in the year, as we all loev performing. We have some gigs already confirmed for the summer, which we will be perfroming at Respect Festival on the 8th of June and then we will be performing at Bomba on the 3rd of July.
Additonally, everything is going to have a big chnage in the second year of college, as I will be attending university in September, which means the band is going to be changing. I will still be in in conntact with the group and I hope to continue playing with them when I can. To spread our music, we found it a good idea to send one of our tracks to BBC Introducing, doing this will allows us to spread our music and hopefully get to played on the radio and at larger venues. Releasing an EP for our FMP, has allowed us to interact with our followers on social media platforms and has given us a foundational base to start our music career.
The success of FMP has ben a mixture. The success of the EP release has been really positive, this is due to the amount of views and streams we have recieved from streaming platfoms, that have helped spread our music. The success of the music video has gone well, as at first we were not sure how well it will do. But as seen on my post production blog, how the views have been going up over the weeks it has been released. As mentioned, we recieved a total of 243 views on YouTube with the music video of Get Busy, on Spotify we have recieved 89 monthly listeners or who have listened to our tracks. These success are really good so far, as we have only just began releasing earlier in the month of May. On Spotify, the we had a total of 198 views sice the day the EP was released Monday the 20th, whcih is a good start as the track has been out for.a day. We hope that this amount would grow. In which it did as we have reached a total of 260 streams of our EP.
This photo shows the amount of streams we had receievd from spotify, as well as the amout of people listening to the tracks. This was taken from the 22nd of May and by now the numbers may have gone up, due to the amount of promotion we have been advertising o or social media pages. These releases have worked out well and the scale of success is highly positive. Therefore, we hope that the amount of views keeps extending after our FMP, as originally we had no subscriber's on our YouTube, to which we now have 15. We found on Spotify we have excelled our expectations and reached an overall high amount of streams on our EP, which is amazing as we have worked really hard on it.
To conclude my FMP, we have all done really well have had a large success with releasing our EP. As well for the EP, we have successfully completed a music video, which some of us didn't think we would be able to do it, but we stuck by the plan and we did a good go at it. The success was worth it and it helped people find us on other platforms. Creating the music video has really benefitted me, even though I was not hands on with the camera because I was in shot, researching and finding our about different inspirations and camera angles. This will benefit me for going to university, knowing my ways around the camera and how a music video benefits artists, as well as how does it help promote them. Another part of my FMP that has benefitted me would be the recording process. The last terms I have been building my skills within the recoding sessions and I have found when recording the EP, that I find it more straightforward now. Seeing what it is like recoding tracks will benefit me if I do end up in the music industry, I will be able to know what to do and what to look for in the DAW. Therefore this FMP has been enjoyable to do with a really good group of people and we will continue looking at the success of the EP, in order to inspire us to create more music.
