Post production is an important factor, to which we will have mixing and editing to be done for all the tracks on the EP. Additionally, its important that we measure the success of our completed tracks, such as the amount of people that have streamed and listened to them. We will be working closely with our mixing producer, in order to receive the best sound from each song. Therefore giving him reference tracks of what we wnat our instreumnet to sound like. I will be going through in detail the process and how Coal has mixed with different levels and EQs. A lot of this will be done after everything is recorded and finished.
Today is our official release day for Get Busy, as well as the music video. The process for releasing the track, proceeds as we put all of our details and information on Distrokid ready to upload the track. Josh was the main distributer who did all the information of his laptop, which included all of our names and the producers. With Distrokid, the platform uploads to all streaming platforms, such as Amazon music, Spotify, Instagram music and Apple music. We wanted to upload the track at around 5PM as well as the music video at the same time, because we were performing at a gig that evening and we found releasing the track a couple of hours beforehand, would allow us to mention that we now have a single released. Later that evening we found that the track had not been released on Spotify yet, but it was on other streaming platforms. The event that evening was at BOMBA, which started at around 7:30PM. This event was really enjoyable as we had the chance to perform with other bands of the same age. We played our setlist which was mainly to showcase our original tracks, but also some covers such as Twist and Shout, I Saw Her Standing There and Johnny B. Goode. The night was very successful, as we have all grown as a band and enjoyed the journey with creating these songs and performing together.
The after math of our successful gig last night meant that we needed to post social media content. We were able to get hold of footage from the night as well as good quality photos that we could post. As Get Busy was now on streaming platforms we could attach the sound to the post, so our followers can hear the track. We had professional photos taken by Tom, who sent me the finalised photos and they were really great. We only posted the video of Twist and Shout on the 9th as we did not have the photos from Tom yet until the 13th. We recieved a couple of responses from our followers, who comented how well the night went.
The video of Twist and Shout, was a good choice to post after the night. We invited our friend George Humphries up to sing Twist and Shout, which got the audience really interactive. This social media post received 45 likes. This is not the best results as we were hoping for more likes. Therefore looking into a way in which we could have more likes on a post, could involve that we are just starting out and have only just started a fanbase, a part from family and friends.
The majority of our followers are friends and family, but with time that will expand and we will be able to build our followers. Additionally, we have attached to our post the track of Get Busy. In order for people to hear it and if they like what they hear then they will therefore follow us and our music.
One of other main projects was to release a music video, this was mine and Fin's main project to complete. After the release of the video, we needed to record the success of the video and how well it has done. We also released our music video for Get Busy, which came out on the same day at 5PM. Successfully, within 48 hours we have reached a total of 67 views for our music video. This is a a large accomplishment, as we have gained more subscribers from the video, which is a good amount so far and we hope that this will be extended. This music video, was an enjoyable process to do. Hopefully in the future if this video has gone down well, then we will consider making another one and maye collaborating with a video maker instead of using our phones to record.
The next day its important to measure the music video success its consistent and if there are any changes to the overall views. Seen in the image belwo, the amount of views have increased which is a positive. As seen, the information shows the amount of hours our vidoe has been watched and the total has icreased from the previous day. This could show that people have accessed our social media pages and have seen our conett o know thta we have released a music video. We posted a teaser about our upcoig video on the day of the release, in order to tease our followers of our lastest project thats coming up. Therefore we will be checking up on the amount of views over the next few days to see how uch it has changed.
Looking at the music video success this week, we have progressed muh more then the last week. As the release of the music video was released a week ago and we have excelled in receveig more views to 196 views from the day that it was released. As well for the music video, we needed to look on Spotify so see how well the track has been recieved as well as the amount of streams.
The overall view of Get Busy, since it has been released a week ago, has been very positev. At the beginning Distrokid was not allowing us to view our all time streams, until now we can see the overall views. As of now, we have 70 monthly listeners and an overall 167 streams of the track. This hgely successful as it has been only our for a week. At this rate we wnat to be excelling in more streams, therefore we will keep advertsisng Get Busy as well as the upcoming EP. Another thing that is helpful on Distrokid, is that it allows us to see ur msot successful age group, which varies but overall 18 year olds and under are our most popualr age group. This result may be due to the majority of our friends being are followers and they are around the same age as us.
This day became eventful with the mixing and mastering process. As mentioned in my production blog, we had a dilemma on Thursday night, where our producer Coal had sent us the final mix of Wounded Heart and Drink Me. We all agreed that we did not like what he had done and decided to take it into our own hands. The problem we had with each track, was that with Wounded Heart, it barely sounded like he mixed or edited anything and with Drink Me there was only reverb put on and everything was left the same. This was a let down, as he had done a really good job with Get Busy and we were all hoping that he would of done the same with the other tracks. This is where we needed to decide what our next moves were and how we could fix this.
The photo shows Izzy's communication with Coal and how we had to keep asking him for any updates. We had a couple of options to consider with moving on with our FMP. An option included that we could completely change our idea an just keep our release to a single, but this defiantly was a keen idea as we had worked so hard on the recordings and wanted to release them as an EP. The other being we mix and master on our own, which was the idea that we chose. We all do not have much experience with mixing and mastering, therefore Josh and Fin were the main ones who took charge in this. We knew that the standard was not going to be as good as producer would of done, but we tried our best and we were overall happy with what we had done. Another problem was that Coal had the USB stick which had the track 'Take It From Me' on it, so we were not able to start it until the next day on Friday.
This is the mixing process that Josh and Fin had completed. This was for the song Drink Me, which is our much slower track, that did not need to have any special effects done to it. This has to be one of my favourite tracks on the EP because of the soul influence and sound, which it sounded great with the sound it gave off.
Additionally, the next track that needed to be mixed was Wounded Heart and this song was much more complex. This track includes Izzy's harmonies, which was an aspects that needed to get correct and not make them too overpowering. We adjusted the levels, and used compression to make the sound tight and professional. Overall we did the best to our ability and were happy with the outcome. The photo below shows the mixing.
Today was the gig at Exmouth Rugby Club for our friend George's FMP. We had to retrieve the track 'Take it From Me' from the college computer. This allowed us to have the whole morning to complete the mixing and finalising our EP. Before the gig, we had to make our way to Exmouth, in which Fin and Josh did some mixing on the train to get ahead. But we found when we got to Exmouth that we had another collaboration with our good friend Frazer Aze. Frazer was also performing that evening, he helped us out with mixing Take it From Me. Frazer has a bit more experience with mixing then all of us do, therefore it was really great that he could help us out. By around 5PM the mixing was finished and Frazer had done the best he could with the amount of time he had before sending it off to Distrokid. The release took a couple of days before the EP was on all streaming platforms. But ultimately by the Monday everything would be out. I really liked Izzy's vocals on the track, as distortion has been added in order to create that telephone effect.
Today is the official release of our EP. Originally we set our release on the 17th of May, but the tracks did not offical load until the Monday. This marks that we are all on post-production now with the completed mixes of all the tracks. From now on, the main focus will be on the success of our EP and how well it is being streamed and listened too. Similar to the msuic vide, on YouTube we will be looking at the amount of views and the amount of subscribers we will recieve from the EP.
This is the last day for post-production, as the rest of the week will be included in my final evaluation and mainly involve keeping up with coursework. The progress of all our release material has varied. Starting with the music video which was released on the 8th as well as Get Busy. The music video has been successful, with the first 48hours we reached 196 views, which is a high amount of views on one video. This was a positive outcome as new people are finding our music and supporting our releases. As of today on the 21st, we have reached 241 views. This is a large accomplishment let along we have never made a music video before. Ultimately we would of liked more views and we will still be pushing it and keeping out Instagram posts up of us announcing the release. Negatively we have not received a large amount of subscribers on our YouTube, as of now we only have 15 which is not a huge amount. This could change as we start to grow our music, but we were hoping via the release that could receive more. Therefore, maybe we need to advice more of our music on YouTube, as we only post about Spotify and maybe we need to expand and talk about how people can watch via YouTube.
Spotify is probably our biggest streaming platform and the one we draw most attention too. As seen, the EP has been out for a day and we are already receiving 226 views. This is due to our promotion on social media and announcing that it has been released. These are the statistics from Spotify. At the moment on Spotify we have around 73 monthly listeners, which is a good start as this is over the last couple of weeks.
Overall, it has defiantly been a journey to get this EP out in the streaming world, but we have all wormed really hard. This goes from dealing with two production students who unsuccessfully were not able to mix some of our music and we took it into our own hands. Ultimately it was each others bad on both sides, as we probably should of given Coal more notice, but struggled to as we only had a few weeks left and needed the songs as soon as possibly. This prepares us for the industry ahead, as ultimately we will be et down a couple of times and its how we deal with it, in order to get the results you want. Therefore communication should be improved next time we do work with a producer and give as much notice as we can. Bellow is our complete EP ' In My Own Words' on all streaming platforms.
