Within this page I will be going through my collaboraive elements for my FMP. This is an important element that we will have to include, these collaborations are the band's logo, and the mixing and mastering process. We have had a lot of help with our collaborators with making this EP, as we will be workign with a variation of different people. We all need to make sure that our communication is consistent, for the mixing, we have a idea of what we want all the tracks to sound like. Therefore making sure that we deliver our idas across easily. We all have different roles for different projects. For me and Fin we are in charge of crea
We all have different roles for differet projects, this was a good idea, as there is a lot to do and we needed to spread the work load. Starting with th music video, For me and Fin we are in charge of creating and leading the music video process. This means me and Fin need to work together in making mood boards and researchig the best way to record a music video. We will be looking at tutorials and other music videos that we can draw inspiration from. Therefore this is quite a large project as original we were going to be doing two music videos, but have happily limited it down to just one, this is due to time limitation as well as we wnat to make one good one instead of makig two ok music videos. Therefore, this is what mine and Fin's job role is. Next is Izzy and Josh who are in charge of social media. Their job rob includes posting on social media platforms such as TikTk and Instagram, which are our main platforms. Every week their aim is to post some social media content on both platforms. This is a bit of a a challenge as we need to find different ideas each work to post. Therefore bot Izzy and Josh will also ned to look inot distribution and how they can promote our music online. For Kyran, he is our lead producer, therefore he will be taking charge in the recordig sessions. Additionally, he will be working closley with our mixing producer Seth in oder for the released tracks to sund professional.
Overall, these are all the job roles for our FMP. These job roles will be shared aroudn in the roup, as we all will be wokrin toegther to get the best outcome. But ultimately, having different roles will really help us out.
Creating a band logo is a highly important element, as this logo will define us and a band. For our collaborator we are having Josh's brother Harry Rawlings to help design to cover art and band logo. Harry has experience with creating artwork and Josh has been the main communicator with giving him ideas and mood boards. Looking into why we wnat a band logo and what are the benefits for a having a band logo, the history of logos . I found that "The logo becomes the foundation and starting place to market themselves to a larger audience and to cultivate a strong association with their music. Oftentimes, people have a sense of the musical style or genre of the musician before they have even listened to the music." The history of logos mentions about Led Zeppelin’s offbeat and unique lettering; AC/DC’s thick, geometric sans serif font; and the US presidential seal used on the logo for The Ramones, to name a few. All these logos capture the personality, style and musical identity of the bands. Even to this day these bands and their logos are as iconic as they were in the 70s." Its imporant to acknowledge how imporat a logo is for branding a band and being recognised by iconic symbols. Therefore we all knew that we wanted someone to create our logo and not just do it through AI or online.
The process started with giving him a mood board, in oder to give him inspiration of what we wanted. We knew we wnated something eyecatching and colourful. The photos on the left is the image we have sent him, these include pop art photos. We all like the idea of pop art and want to go forward with it, because of how eyecatching the designs are. Pop art was very popualr in the 1980s, with Andy Warhol making the deisgns popular. Therefore the band logo is a crucial project to complete and we vey much trust Harry to do a good job.
Harry uses his ipad to design these logos and cover art. The process of working with Harry, has been very successful as he has kept Josh updated with what he has done so far and then Josh has told the rest of the group through social media chats. Therefore we successsfully made a good start with one of our collaborators. Josh was the main communicator with Harry and we found that if any of the rest of us needed to make a point or anything we would have to go through Josh. Next time, I think all of us should of been able to talk to Harry about any adjustements, but I understood that it proberly would of been easier to have one person talkijg instead of loads of people at once. A change in the plan occured whe we had to release Get Busy as a single, and we had to have a seperae cover art from the rest of the EP. Harry was very quick to design another cover art with little notice and the outcomes were realy good. This meant we had to tell Harry about creating another piece of art . Therefore, the results of the collaboration have been sucessful and we have achieved to have art work and a logo.
These are the results from the cover art. We were all proud with what Harry had sent us and we needed to include our EP title. Positivly we have posted the art on our social media pages to give credit to our collaborator and to spread his work. Our collaboration has been successful and we will work with Harry again.
Another element of collaboration was the mixing, editing and mastering process of our original tracks. We arranged to be working with a prodution student called Coal who will be working with us to achieve our desired EP sound. The communication wit the band and producer is very important and its vital that the producer has a good relationship with the band in order for the recoding to go smoothly and correctly. "Music producers help to shape the overall sound and artistic direction of a song or album. They work closely with artists, songwriters, and recording engineers to bring musical ideas to fruition". Therefore, with Coal we need to make sure that he knows what he is doing. As social media is a big part of our FMP, its important to consider "In an era dominated by streaming platforms and social media, music producers understand the importance of creating music that not only connects with listeners on an emotional level but also caters to their ever-evolving tastes and preferences. Coal's role as the main mixer, would be to apply any desired effects and sounds we would want to the tracks. For example, Izzy always likes to have reverb on the tracks, therefore Coal should take that in account of what we wold like done. Additionally, as Coal is not a part of our class and is one of the production students its important that communication from him should be consistent. Coal and Kyran should be able to work together and communicate about any additional ideas.
Following an unexpected situation that occurred on the 16th of May, where we ended up having to mix three of our songs. I will discuss more about how we mixed and mastered on my post- production blog, therefore the collaboration with Coal has not been entirely successful, as he mixed Get Busy really well and we were all happy with it. But we found that our other tracks 'Wounded Heart' and 'Drink Me' it sounded like he hardly mixed anything. Overall we had to take matters into our own hands and do it ourselves.
The evidence we have got from Coal mixing Get Busy is the final outcome that we have released. We were hoping to have a better collaboration with Coal then our previous producer called Seth, as Seth didn't respond to some of our messages, even though we were trying to help him out.
