YEE HAW! This poor outfit had a hard time becoming real. First it was on the FM website as "To Be Announced" without a name, and it stayed that way a long time.
It's a seven item outfit with a couple of bonuses hidden under the box lid. This deal includes an unbelievable replica of Diana's gown with a short train and a copy of the Spencer tiara attached to a veil. There is a replica pair of Diana's mother's earrings as well.
Shoes are included and while they aren't exactly like Diana's lovely quilted flats, they are a spiffed up version of the typical plastic FM tuna boats.
(Eleanor and Stacy of S n' E Shoes made an absolutely smoking copy of Diana's wedding slippers, complete with shoebox. See photo below.)
The wedding gown ensemble sold for double the "normal" outfit price at $90, but the first year it was available, that $90 included a bonus of the purple gown outfit. There was no way the typical Diana collector was going to pass up her wedding gown, so many ended up with extra purple gowns.
In 2007/2008, when the Mint's owners, the Resnicks, were finalising a sale pf the company after having built the Mint's position as a leader in creating collectible heirloom porcelain and vinyl dolls, changes in the selling practices were noticed. A few more Diana outfits that had previously been sold boxed started appearing dressed on dolls, and two of the LE dressed dolls' outfits appeared in ensemble boxes. The wedding gown was in the former group. The new owners sold off remaining stock and wound down the Mint's catalog and doll design divisions.
My only problem with this whole outfit is that it isn't contemporary with the doll's face (which is too "mature" to be dressed in this outfit.) That doesn't bother some people, but Diana wasn't quite the "People's Princess" yet on her wedding day. The dress really needs a teenage dewy-faced Diana rising above its frilly frou-frou neckline.
