For original subscribers to the collection, a wonderful wardrobe trunk was shipped with the Lace Gown. While many collectors received it free after the purchase of 6 outfits, after 2001 the trunk was no longer complimentary. Extra trunks were available for purchase for $90, the same price as the blue knit suit doll. Later subscribers were asked to cough up $110 for it.
The outside is a nice navy vinyl, trimmed with shiny silver fitting and a lovely "Diana, Princess of Wales" nameplate by the catch. Inside, the trunk is lined with powder blue rose patterned wallpaper. One side of the trunk is divided into two sections: room to store a doll or two with a side section divided into four deep drawers. The other side of the trunk is configured like a closet, with a bar for the hangers that accompany each outfit and a shelf for storing items such as the hats.
The drawers vary in depth and can hold handbags, shoes, jewelry and other small accessories. Inside one of the drawers is a lovely "silver" filigree bud vase containing a few more of Diana's namesake "Princess of Wales" white roses from the blue suit outfit. The trunk holds about a dozen outfits comfortably, but starts getting too full with the wedding gown, which has a wide skirt and a net crinoline. It can hold 2-3 dolls, depending on the number of outfits stored. If you have purchased many limited edition dolls and have more than the 14-16 standard outfits (depending on how "standard" is determined!) then it might be best for you to purchase an extra trunk. The only problem is that the hanging side will not accommodate extra dolls unless the closet pole and shelf are removed.
