All Global First Year students are required to live on campus. Any student wishing to live off-campus must seek approval at least 30 days prior to the start of the G1Y program by submitting a housing waiver request by email to Lukas Calafell at lukas.calafell@globalfiu.com.
Housing agreements cannot be cancelled after the start of the semester.
Room assignments are made based on the date you applied for housing, housing availability, your age, and what preferences you entered in on your Housing Preference Form. The earlier you submit your preferences, the more likely you are to be assigned to one of your top choices.
Please Note: Students age 17 will be assigned to Option A housing. Students under the age of 17 will be assigned to special housing in Panther Hall.
New G1Y students can request a roommate by emailing Lauren Van Sant at lauren.vansant@globalfiu.com. Please note that we cannot guarantee roommate matching.
Continuing G1Y students can self select their roommates during the FIU Housing Returning Room Selection.
New Global First Year students will get their room assignments approximately two weeks before classes start. Current Global First Year students may select their room and roommates during the self-assignment process. You will know your assignment instantaneously.
Once we give out room assignments all of our space is completely filled, so room changes are not always possible. You may contact us if you have room change request prior to arriving, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to honor it
If you are having a problem with your room or roommate, please speak with your Resident Assistant (RA) about the issue. He or she can recommend what to do or help you with a roommate mediation. If the issue is very serious, you should contact a Graduate Assistant or Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) in your community office. For phone numbers of the community offices, please visit the Building Address page.
G1Y does not process room or building changes. Any room change requests must go directly through the FIU housing office by email at housing@fiu.edu. Be sure to include your full name and Panther ID number in your email.
Please check the Moving Out page for housing move-out dates.
You can always fill out an online work order with Housing Facilities here. If your maintenance problem is an emergency, such as a dead elevator, toilet running over, power out, or an extremely hot or cold room, you should call the resident assistant on duty phone number for assistance.
Having a problem with a washer or dryer? If so, please report the machine number and problem to your area front desk so that our laundry provider can be contacted to resolve the issue.
