Global Leadership Outreach Workgroup (GLOW)

Overview

GLOW is a Global First Year work group is designed to help shape Global First Year policies and provide needed services to fellow students. GLOW is made up of elected student members who provide a voice on opinions, concerns and needs of their fellow students in G1Y. GLOW members also take part in planning programming with a focus on health/wellness, service opportunities, integration into the FIU community, and other student defined areas of need.

Why should I join GLOW?

Student leadership positions are a great way to become involved on campus and in the community. You can help shape Global First Year policies and provide needed services to fellow students. Additionally, we have a lot of fun, and it is a great way to get involved! Students involved in student organizations tend to do better in school. It’s a fact!

What do I have to do in GLOW?

• Attend all weekly GLOW meetings at a mutually determined time

• Provide feedback for focus group questions in person and potentially online

• Attend a minimum of 3 Global First Year sponsored events

• Regularly check email and phone for important communications

• Be professional, responsible, reliable, articulate and able to reach out to students

Am I eligible to join?

All current Global First Year students are eligible to apply. Students are eligible for 1 semester during their time in Global First Year with potential to continue. The following positions are available:

• Fall 2021 Representative

  • Open to students who began in Fall 2021

• Spring 2021 Representative

  • Open to students who began in Spring 2021

• Summer 2021 Representative

  • Open to students who began in Summer 2021

• Housing Representative

  • Open to students living on campus. May apply to this position in addition to the semester representative for your start term

• Commuter Representative

  • Open to commuters. May apply to this position in addition to the semester representative for your start term
