On April 7, the Espacio Fundación Telefónica in Madrid hosted Conversaciones WAIQ, an international event focused on Europe's opportunities to balance the global technological race with ethical leadership.
Our group member, Ana Cremades, participated as an expert speaker in the opening roundtable titled 'European Regulation and Ethics as a Competitive Advantage.'
During the panel, she discussed Europe's unique potential to integrate emerging technologies into society through responsible and clear regulatory frameworks. The event highlighted the importance of a humanistic approach to innovation, and the full recording is available to watch on the Fundación Telefónica website.

On May 20, our group member Ana Cremades participated in the event 'Semiconductors: From Scientific Excellence to Industrial Execution' hosted by the Fundación Innovación Bankinter in Madrid.
The session coincided with the presentation of the Future Trends Forum's final report on the critical role of chips in AI, health, and energy. Ana joined a panel of international experts to discuss the current ecosystem and the strategic opportunities for Spain and Europe over the next decade. Their conversation focused on translating technological innovation into strategic industrial decisions.
We are proud to see our members actively shaping the dialogue on such critical technologies.

We are thrilled to announce that our former group member, Daniel Carrasco, has successfully defended his PhD thesis. His doctoral work investigated the optical, structural, and functional properties of β-Ga2O3, exploring its integration into micro- and nanostructures for photonic and electronic applications.
During his research, Daniel developed innovative detection devices based on this ultra-wide bandgap oxide, including highly sensitive dual optical thermometers and Schottky photodiodes.
His comprehensive findings consolidate nanostructured β-Ga2O3 as a versatile material capable of operating under demanding conditions for advanced sensing and spectral control.
Congratulations, Daniel, on this outstanding scientific achievement!

We are pleased to share our latest publication in Advanced Materials, "Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics" https://doi.org/10.1002/adma.202512456
This is a comprehensive review on wide- and ultra-wide-bandgap semiconducting oxide nanostructures and their growing relevance for next-generation photonics. Beyond consolidating recent advances, this work puts forward a strategic perspective: the future of semiconductor technologies will not rely on a single material platform, but on the intelligent integration of emerging materials that enable new functionalities at the photonics–quantum interface. Building on recent work from our group, and the broader community, the article explores how wide-bandgap oxides offer unique opportunities through defect engineering, nanostructuring, and light–matter coupling, positioning them as promising platforms for quantum photonics, single-photon sources, quantum sensing, and hybrid quantum–classical systems.

Bianchi, Bea, Onur and Paula met with old fellow Jaime Dolado in ESRF - ID16 to perform several experiments including XEOL, XRF, XANES spectra and their mappings.
ESRF is European Synchrotron Radiation Facility and one of the most powerful X-ray sources in the world. Members of FINE group visited to the facility for the third time working on various projects that contributed to several articles from ESRF.
And new results are coming with new research articles!!!

We are delighted to announce that our group member, Paula has been awarded a highly competitive Contrato Predoctoral de Personal Investigador en Formación (PIPF) this year!
The PIPF is Spain's formal employment contract for PhD students, designed to fund a researcher's training and thesis completion for a maximum of four years. Crucially, this contract provides Paula with a salary and full social security benefits (including health insurance and unemployment), establishing her as a salaried trainee researcher rather than just a grant recipient.
This outstanding achievement secures her position and funding with us for the next four years. We offer our warmest congratulations to Paula on this well-deserved success and look forward to supporting her continued career trajectory and thesis work!
