The K-12 Grading System, Electronic Class Record Templates, and DepEd Forms
The K to 12 Basic Education Program uses standards- and competency-based grading system. When we say grading system we mean a system that educators use in a particular institution to evaluate each individual student’s performance and learning. Grading can include letter grades, percentages and even a simple pass/fail. Grades can be attached to physical activities like writing assignments, lab work, projects, reports and tests. In DepEd, all grades are based on the weighted raw scores of the learners summative assessments. These summative assessment can be classified into three components, namely, written works (WW), performance task (PT), and quarterly assessment These three will be the bases for grading. The nature of the learning area defines the way these three components are assessed.
For Kindergarten, checklist and anecdotal records are used instead of numerical grades. These are based on learning standards found in the Kindergarten curriculum guide. For grades 1 to 12, numerical grades are used. The minimum grade needed to pass a specific learner’s area is 60, which is transmuted to 75 in the report card. The lowest rank mark that can appear on the report card is 60 for quarterly grades and final grades.
Teachers in the Basic Education implementing the K to 12 program uses electronic class record in excel format to facilitate high level of accuracy in the computation of the learners grade. Each learning area has its specific e-class record. Aside from these, different DepEd forms are accomplished at varied time within a school year.
In this activity, FS 2 students will be exposed to various DepEd forms and e-class records. They will be given opportunities to examine and accomplish different forms, compute quarterly grades and final grades, and accomplish e-class records aligned with their specialization.
The learners who got a passing grade are Learner B and C. The Learner B got a quarterly grade of 85 which means that the descriptive equivalent is Very Satisfactory while the Learner C got a quarterly grade of 77 which means that the descriptive equivalent is Fairly Satisfactory.
The learners who got a failing grade are Learner A and C. They both need to improve their quarterly assessment, written work, and performance tasks.
The quarterly grade of the Learner B who has the highest initial grade is 88. It is very satisfactory.
Learner C, got a very satisfactory grade with a grade of 91.
We get the total number of scores in each component in order to systematically compute the learners' grade. After calculating the sum of the points, we can calculate each learner's percentage score. After that, we compute the weighted average. We combine each learner's weighted average in their individual components after getting the weighted average, and then get at the initial grade. Based on the transmutation table, we transmute the initial grade and conclude the quarterly grade.
The use of e-class record, it is because the Department of Education (DepEd) provides these Electronic Class Record (ECR) templates free for use by all public teachers. The E-Class Record which is formatted by using a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file document gives the teachers an important grading information and evaluations on which class recording of grades are now more reliable an efficient. E-class records automatically compute the grades by the use of a formula. Many teachers find the e-class records very helpful in recording child's performance in school because they do not need to use calculator or manually computing of grades. E class record were simplified using basic features in a spreadsheet file. User manual are also provided to guide teachers on how to use the e-class record templates. It is not wasting time to record grades especially if you already know how to use it very well.
Yes, it is very important to conduct systematic approach when it comes to computing the grades of students. The purpose of grading is to assess and provide comments on the work of students. Instructors can tell students how they're doing in class and where they need additional help to meet the course's objectives in this way. When using a proficiency based grading system, one of the main goals is to produce grades that more accurately reflect a student's learning progress and achievement, including situations where students struggled at the start of a semester or school year, but then persevered and worked hard to meet their goals.
School forms are needed to accomplish for these are considered to be important records that ensure the quality and consistency of learner information.
Every Teacher needs to do their school form and required to submit their report. These report include the most important data such as class record, daily attendance and other documents.
As stipulated in the DepEd Order No. 14, s. 2021 or the "INTERIM GUIDELINEA ON THE PREPARATION, AUBMISSION, AND CHECKING OF SCHOOL FORMS" every school year has a process of checking of forms which may be conducted via online and on-site. Checking of forms is annually mandated. Schools who fail to accomplish the forms shall receive a memo that they need to comply with the submission. So as a teacher, you should be proactive in making school forms especially with a year to have preparation to do before its scheduled submission.
The use of teaching aids facilitates this objective by assisting teachers in differentiating instruction. Using aids such as graphs, charts, flashcards, videos, provides learners with visual stimulation and the opportunity to access the content from a different vantage point. This gives each learner the opportunity to interact with the content in a way which allows them to comprehend more easily. After our team teaching we must say that we both used non-digital and digital teaching aids but in some aspects I will say that we don't really give justice in non-digital. We just rely on our skills on how we execute that parts we designate, so if we will given a chance to enhance our teaching aids we will assure that we will gonna used all teaching aids that we will gonna do with proper execution. Presenting teaching aids is full of effort and time in some way, we must used teaching aids alligned in our objectives and used it properly during the discussion or teaching. And somehow it's not the teaching aids that we want to enhanced but the team teaching itself, after the team teaching I just realized that we see as a group but we act as individuals during the demo. Maybe that is what we need to enhanced if we will given a chance to redemonstrate.
As a future educators, we have a lot to be excited about. They’ve embarked on a fantastic journey of meeting students, creating lesson plans, and beginning an extremely meaningful career. On the downside, one aspect of teaching that causes more dread than excitement for early career teachers is grading. We prefer to use rubrics because it can be a phenomenal tool when grading. Rather than question your reasoning for your assessment of each student’s assignment, you can take some of the mental work out of it. Did they do this? Check. Did they do that? Check. You’ll make grading easier for yourself by giving them solid feedback that you’ve already considered. Another perk of this tactic is that you can give your students the rubric before they even begin the work. That way, they know the expectations they need to meet in order to succeed.
As we observed there's a lot of school forms that we need to accomplish. And one of the easiest form that we encountered is the Sf9, which is the report card. In this school form you only need to input all the grades of your students in all subjects.
One of the school forms that is not easy to accomplish is the sf1, which is the data/information of your students. In this school form you need to be careful in all the data that you will input because it is base on the real information and you need to have a valid bases/evidences. And one thing that we do to make this school form easy to accomplish and to avoid discrepancies/problem, we always advised my students to pass all the needed requirements (like PSA Birth Certificate) in advanced.
